Job description
The Legal Counsel role focuses on drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a wide range of contractual arrangements with contractors, customers, consultants, suppliers, lessors, shippers, buyers, lenders, and other entities to safeguard the Foundation legally. It includes proactive legal involvement in Finance, Procurement, IT, PR & Marketing, and HR matters, anticipating potential impediments while monitoring incidents with legal implications. The role requires working with lendersā legal representatives to ensure compliance with loan agreements, collaborating with insurers on loss prevention, and developing contingency plans for risks such as losses or environmental damage. It ensures establishment and enforcement of standards and policies within the Foundation to maintain compliance with complex legal systems, including reconciling Qatari Arabic laws with English contracts. The mandate includes providing legal guidance on the implications of actions taken by internal stakeholders, giving advice on laws, regulations, and court decisions across Administrative Law, Contract, Environmental, Litigation, Fiscal, Civilian Personnel, Standards of Conduct, Conflicts of Interest, and government ethics. Knowledge of FIDIC general conditions is required, as well as maintaining up-to-date expertise in legal matters pertaining to non-profit foundations and QF-specific legal issues.

Key responsibilities
- Draft and negotiate contractual arrangements with contractors, customers, consultants, suppliers, lessors, shippers, buyers, lenders and other parties to ensure legal protection
- Review contractual terms to safeguard the Foundation across all operational areas
- Take proactive legal action in Finance, Procurement, IT, PR & Marketing and HR matters and anticipate legal impediments
- Monitor incidents with potential legal implications and take appropriate action
- Collaborate with lenders' legal representatives to ensure loan agreement compliance
- Work with insurers to support loss prevention efforts
- Develop contingency plans for scenarios such as losses and environmental damage
- Establish and maintain standards and policies to ensure compliance with complex legal systems
- Reconcile Qatari Arabic laws with English contracts and agreements
- Ensure internal stakeholders understand legal implications of their actions
- Provide advice on legal implications related to current and long-range mission plans and programs
- Review and evaluate legal aspects of programs to ensure attainment of objectives
- Advise on a broad range of legal areas including Administrative Law, Contract, Environmental, Litigation, Fiscal, Civilian Personnel, Standards of Conduct, Conflicts of Interest and government ethics
- Apply knowledge of FIDIC general conditions as required
- Maintain expertise in legal matters relevant to non-profit foundations and QF's unique activities
Experience & skills
- Hold a Bachelorās degree in Law
- Possess 6ā8 years of experience as a commercial lawyer or in a professional business environment
- Have commercial knowledge related to non-profit organizations, especially in large public-sector organizations
- Demonstrate outstanding negotiation skills
- Possess excellent oral and written communication skills in English with ability to draft and edit reports and communications
- Have proficiency in Arabic considered an advantage
- Demonstrate proficiency in MS Office applications
- Maintain strong ability to articulate legal concepts clearly and concisely
- Have experience working with contracts involving diverse stakeholders such as contractors, suppliers, consultants, lenders and insurers
