Job description
The Senior Field Service Engineer role at ABB in Abu Dhabi operates within the Process Automation Energy Industries division and reports to the Automation Engineering Manager. The position focuses on executing medium to high complexity field service work in accordance with ABB guidelines and work instructions for Distributed Control Systems, Safety Systems, and Substation Automation Systems. The role requires deep technical expertise in ABB 800xA with AC 800M, Symphony Plus (S+), ABB Infi90, and other ABB control systems, with hands-on involvement in ICSS and/or PMS/SCMS automation systems across Oil & Gas and Power & Water markets. The engineer delivers on-site and remote technical services, resolves complex automation and control system issues, analyzes high-level technical problems, and provides expert advice to customers and internal stakeholders. Responsibilities include planning and executing service work, managing subcontractors on site, coaching technicians and engineers, supervising complex site activities, and identifying opportunities to improve system and operational performance within the installed base. The role also involves identifying improvement needs in products and ways of working, driving continuous improvement actions, and collaborating with customers and ABB teams to identify and develop new service business opportunities. The position requires strong proficiency in industrial communication protocols such as IEC 61850, Modbus, Profibus, OPC, IEC 101, and IEC 104, as well as enhanced knowledge of industrial networking and cybersecurity solutions for control systems, all while ensuring superior customer experience and customer retention.

- Plan and prepare site activities for larger project teams, manage subcontractors at site, coach technicians and engineers, and supervise complex automation service activities
- Identify installed base improvement opportunities to enhance system performance and operational efficiency for customers
- Drive continuous improvement actions by identifying gaps in products and ways of working within assigned area of responsibility
- Identify and develop new service business opportunities in close cooperation with customers and other ABB teams
- Contribute to customer satisfaction and retention by delivering superior customer experience and high-quality technical service
