Job description
The Assistant Resident Engineer β Civil (OHL) at Tractebel, part of the ENGIE Group, supports the Resident Engineer in supervising and monitoring civil works for overhead line (OHL) projects within the Transmission & Distribution department. This role ensures compliance with contract documents, approved method statements, safety regulations, and technical drawings. Responsibilities include conducting site inspections, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, reviewing contractor submissions and shop drawings, monitoring construction progress, witnessing inspections and testing, and supporting final project handover. The role requires strong technical knowledge of civil works for OHL projects, familiarity with UAE utility and regulatory requirements, and the ability to operate effectively in multicultural, high-pressure environments. Prior experience with major UAE utilities such as TRANSCO, ADDC, or DEWA is highly preferred.

Key responsibilities
- Assist the Resident Engineer in daily supervision of civil works for overhead line projects
- Conduct regular site visits and inspections to ensure contractor performance meets project standards
- Liaise with all technical disciplines and participate in Site Technical Coordination Meetings
- Review and approve contractor submissions, shop drawings, and other construction-related documents
- Monitor contractor activities to ensure compliance with approved drawings, layouts, and method statements
- Witness site activities, inspections, and testing as per project requirements
- Support the Resident Engineer during final inspections for completion certification and project handover
- Ensure proper implementation of health and safety measures on-site for all civil works
- Maintain accurate documentation and reporting of site activities, inspections, and contractor performance
- Coordinate with utility authorities and ensure compliance with regulatory and contractual requirements
- Provide technical support and guidance to contractors and site teams to resolve issues proactively
- Track progress against project schedules and escalate deviations or risks promptly
- Assist in reviewing quality assurance and control procedures to uphold construction standards
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to facilitate smooth project execution and problem-solving
- Support continuous improvement initiatives on-site to enhance efficiency and safety practices
- Act as a liaison between the Resident Engineer and on-site teams to ensure effective communication and execution
Experience & skills
- Bachelorβs degree in Civil Engineering, approved by UAE regulatory authorities
- Minimum of 8 yearsβ experience in civil engineering projects within the UAE, including OHL-related works
- Strong technical knowledge of civil works specific to overhead line projects
- Proficiency in site supervision, contractor coordination, and construction monitoring
- Familiarity with UAE utility and authority requirements, regulations, and compliance standards
- Prior experience with major UAE utilities such as TRANSCO, ADDC, or DEWA is highly preferred
- Ability to conduct technical inspections, review drawings, and verify construction quality
- Proactive and detail-oriented with strong problem-solving capabilities
- Ability to work under pressure in multicultural and high-paced project environments
- Excellent communication and coordination skills to liaise with multidisciplinary teams
