Job description
The Senior Engineer - Electrical at Subsea7, based in Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia, supports the Global Projects Centre East within the Design & Analysis Group, Risers, Installation Analyses and Umbilical and EIC (RIAU & EIC) department, delivering detailed engineering activities for topside offshore oil and gas projects including brownfield modifications and greenfield developments. The role involves supervising engineering subcontractors, coordinating with Lead Engineer and Topside Package Lead, executing detailed engineering as per technical scope of work, and ensuring alignment with client and Subsea7 standards and procedures. Responsibilities include coordinating with multidisciplinary teams such as mechanical, piping, and hook-up disciplines, reviewing subcontractor execution and engineering deliverables, planning and reviewing technical documentation related to topside systems including E&IC and telecommunication systems, confirming milestones such as IFC drawings, technical reviews, and Engineering, Readiness & Operational Reviews, and supporting design and execution issue resolution. The position requires in-depth experience in Saudi Aramco standards (SAES, SAEP), MSEARs, and Saudi Aramco design requirements, with strong exposure to offshore projects including greenfield and brownfield developments. Technical expertise includes LV, MV, and HV electrical equipment and distribution systems, equipment sizing calculations, power system automation, integration with third-party systems, ETAP studies including load flow, short circuit, relay coordination, harmonic studies, electrical protection systems, synchronization with grid and generators, grounding design for offshore platforms, SPEL, Smart 3D modeling, constructability review, material take-off (MTO), procurement engineering activities including MR, RFQ, TBE, PR, and vendor package management. Additional responsibilities include attending project, vendor, and engineering meetings, ensuring compliance with safety objectives and legal requirements, participating in HAZID, HAZOP, and safety studies, supporting engineering improvements, developing tools, templates, and training materials, supervising trainees and junior engineers, conducting progress reviews, ensuring timely submission of engineering deliverables such as site survey reports, Smart 3D models, detailed design documents, and material selection reports, and ensuring adherence to HSE roles and responsibilities as per Subsea7 HSE Role and Responsibility matrix.

Key responsibilities
- Supervise engineering subcontractors and coordinate with Lead Engineer and Topside Package Lead to execute detailed engineering in accordance with technical scope of work
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including mechanical, piping, and hook-up disciplines to ensure alignment for engineering deliverables
- Review subcontractor engineering deliverables and execution to ensure compliance with project requirements, Saudi Aramco standards (SAES, SAEP), and client specifications
- Plan, detail, and review technical documentation for topside systems including E&IC and telecommunication systems
- Confirm project milestones including issuance of IFC drawings, technical reviews, and Engineering, Readiness & Operational Reviews
- Support investigation and resolution of technical issues during design and execution phases
- Conduct progress reviews and ensure timely submission of engineering deliverables including site survey reports, Smart 3D models, and material selection reports
- Provide technical expertise in design codes, legislative requirements, and engineering best practices
- Attend project review, vendor, and multidisciplinary engineering meetings
- Ensure compliance with safety objectives, legal requirements, and Subsea7 HSE roles and responsibilities
- Support engineering improvement initiatives including development of tools, guidelines, templates, and training materials
- Supervise trainees and junior engineering team members
Experience & skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
- More than 12 years of detailed engineering experience in offshore oil and gas brownfield modifications for Saudi Aramco projects
- In-depth knowledge of Saudi Aramco standards (SAES, SAEP), MSEARs, industry codes, and engineering best practices
- Experience in offshore greenfield and brownfield projects
- Experience with LV, MV, and HV electrical equipment and distribution systems including equipment sizing calculations
- Experience in power system automation and integration with third-party systems
- Experience performing ETAP studies including load flow, short circuit, relay coordination, and harmonic study
- Experience in electrical protection systems and synchronization with grid and generators
- Exposure to Saudi Aramco design reviews and stakeholder coordination
- Experience in HAZID, HAZOP, and safety studies
- Experience in SPEL, Smart 3D modeling, and constructability review
- Experience in material take-off (MTO) for electrical and bulk items
- Experience in grounding design for offshore platforms
- Experience in procurement engineering including MR, RFQ, TBE, and PR
