Job description
The Assistant Manager, Operational Risk supports the development and implementation of the operational risk framework across Bank ABC, providing secondâline oversight and challenge to firstâline risk management. The role involves engaging with business units on risk identification, assessment, mitigation, and reporting; facilitating groupâwide risk management processes; coordinating with other nonâfinancial risk teams; analyzing risk data; preparing committee materials; and promoting best practices in operational risk across the bankâs Bahrain head office and wider group operations.

Key responsibilities
- Draft Group Policies, Standards and Procedures and ensure effective implementation through training
- Facilitate management of operational risk across business units and implement the groupâwide framework
- Organize and conduct risk management workshops and coordinate policy implementation
- Assist business units in identifying risks, defining controls and developing mitigation action plans
- Challenge and test effectiveness of controls and analyze loss events, KRIs and other risk data
- Investigate risk events and follow up on completion of action plans
- Review and approve local policies and procedures for compliance with group standards
- Provide dayâtoâday training and support to first and second line units on operational risk
- Lead initiatives including incident management, KRIs and RCSAs; contribute to ICAAP processes
- Ensure quality control of ORM projects and reliability of reports to risk committees
- Participate in new product and change management reviews to assess and mitigate inherent risks
- Align operational risk management with other nonâfinancial risk disciplines
- Prepare consolidated risk reports for senior management, committees and regulators
- Act as point of contact for external auditors and regulators on operational risk matters and serve as secretary of the local ORCO
Experience & skills
- Minimum 5 years of banking experience in operational risk oversight
- Bachelor/ Masterâs degree from a reputable university or equivalent
- Extensive secondâline experience in a global or regional bank
- Advanced understanding of business processes, applications and technology infrastructure related to commercial credits, trade finance or trading & sales
- Excellent knowledge of CBB OMâ1 operational risk requirements and international regulatory standards
- Advanced knowledge of nonâfinancial risk types including information security, BCM, compliance and thirdâparty risk
- Practical experience developing and implementing risk and control frameworks, tools and methodologies
- Strong written and oral communication and presentation skills in English and Arabic
- Ability to lead businessâcritical projects and provide operational risk advice on new products and process changes
- Proficiency in data analysis and report preparation for senior stakeholders
