Job description
The role oversees full lifecycle administration and optimization of database systems, ensuring stability, integrity, and performance across SQL Server-based environments and related applications. It includes maintaining and supporting databases per service-level agreements, driving installations, configurations, backups, and regular health checks, and ensuring adherence to security standards while minimizing risk. Responsibilities cover verification of data integrity through departmental collaboration, evaluating databases and recommending enhancements, and supervising installation, monitoring, and tuning of SQL Server applications. The role drives standardization through common infrastructure building blocks, promotes migration to efficient systems, and identifies simplification and cost-saving initiatives. It includes preparing quarterly ITLT reports, developing robust database structures, assessing and evaluating database programs, modifying and fine-tuning database performance, and interfacing with end users to gather requirements. Managerial responsibilities include controlling unit projects, guiding employees, managing staff performance, setting objectives, ensuring confidentiality, and maintaining compliance with risk and information security procedures and operational policies.

- Maintain and support database and related software applications to agreed standards and SLAs
- Drive installation and configuration processes for new database software applications
- Verify and assist in verifying data integrity through collaboration and resource consolidation
- Evaluate database systems and recommend necessary improvements
- Coordinate and manage scheduled database backups
- Conduct regular database system health checks and manage user accounts and access
- Apply database security standards to minimize risk and ensure compliance
- Define common infrastructure building blocks and promote their use across new projects
- Migrate existing systems onto building blocks to enhance efficiency and decommission outdated solutions
- Identify and act on simplification and cost efficiency opportunities
- Prepare and manage quarterly reports for ITLT
- Supervise installation, monitoring, and tuning of SQL Server-based applications
- Develop robust database structures, theories, and practices
- Assess and evaluate database programs regularly
- Modify and fine-tune database programs to improve processing performance
- Interface with end users to gather requirements and understand needs
- Manage and control unit projects to ensure adherence to company guidelines and quality standards
- Guide and support direct reports in performing functional operations per policies
- Oversee and motivate unit staff, ensuring proper training and standards compliance
- Set performance objectives, evaluate teams, and provide regular feedback
- Ensure adherence to communication, information sharing, and confidentiality policies
- Manage development and implementation of unit policies, procedures, and processes
- Ensure compliance with all relevant procedures across the unit to achieve operational excellence
Experience & skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology required; MBA preferred
- 6+ years of IT experience including at least 2 years in a Senior Managerial position
- Knowledge of Exchange environment
- Strong analytical and numerical skills
- Advanced IT background with extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Proficiency in preparation of presentations and ability to communicate effectively
- Strong interpersonal skills to manage and support team members
- Ability to oversee projects and ensure compliance with organizational policies
