Job description
The Compliance Officer - Sanctions at RAKBANK is responsible for monitoring transactions and investigating potential breaches of sanctions and AML laws, ensuring strict adherence to local and international regulations. The role safeguards the bank’s reputation and financial stability through rigorous due diligence, risk identification, and timely reporting of suspicious activities. The officer assesses sanctions/AML alerts for possible violations, gathers necessary information from business units to validate risks, conducts thorough investigations in line with Sanctions and AML Operating Procedures, and addresses risks related to sanctions circumvention, AML, dual-use goods, and proliferation financing. Guidance is provided to business units to ensure compliance while minimizing customer friction. The officer escalates risk triggers promptly and ensures timely reporting via GoAML, performs enhanced due diligence when required, safeguards correspondent banking relationships, and stays updated on global regulatory developments through active training.

- Assess sanctions/AML alerts for possible violations and gather information from business units to validate risks
- Conduct investigations in line with Sanctions and AML Operating Procedures, considering sanctions circumvention, AML, dual-use goods, and proliferation financing
- Provide guidance to business units to maintain compliance standards with minimal customer friction
- Escalate risk triggers promptly and report suspicious activities via GoAML (STR, SAR, PNMR, CNMR, HRC/HRCA)
- Perform enhanced due diligence where required and safeguard correspondent banking relationships
- Stay updated on global regulatory developments through training sessions
Experience & skills
- University Degree or equivalent
- Mandatory compliance certifications (e.g., ACAMS)
- Proven experience in sanctions and AML investigations within banking or financial services
- Strong understanding of local and international regulatory frameworks
- In-depth knowledge of international sanctions and AML laws
- Ability to assess and mitigate risks, identify red flags, and conduct detailed investigations
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and strategic skills
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management
- Self-motivated, organized, and effective in team environments
