Job description
The Cloud Systems Engineer is responsible for the configuration, implementation, and maintenance of cloud infrastructure technologies managed by the IT Infrastructure department. This role focuses on operating and administering Microsoft 365 and Azure environments, ensuring robust security measures through Microsoft Defender tools, handling endpoint and identity management, automating routine tasks with scripting, and participating in security incidents and compliance operations. The engineer will collaborate with other IT stakeholders during changes or incidents, maintain detailed system documentation, and support disaster recovery and system health monitoring operations.

Key responsibilities
- Manage and support Microsoft Office 365 suite, Azure Identity, Intune, and Microsoft SharePoint Online
- Deploy and operate cloud infrastructure resources, virtual machines, licenses, services, and network integration
- Manage and monitor Microsoft Defender for Endpoint to ensure real-time threat detection
- Implement security access controls and maintain the cloud infrastructure security posture
- Use Microsoft Defender XDR suite and Microsoft 365 security and compliance portal
- Participate in security incidents and forensic analysis as required
- Ensure infrastructure compliance with industry systems standards
- Write scripts to automate routine tasks, generate reports, and fulfill ad hoc requirements
- Analyze monitoring system alerts to ensure system health and respond to raised events
- Monitor, plan, and coordinate operating system updates, patches, and configuration changes
- Collaborate with systems and services architects during major incidents and planned changes
- Perform data backups and disaster recovery operations
- Document system configurations and incident technical details as needed
- Follow company policies and IT standards for workflow and task completion
- Ensure a positive service image in the user community
- Manage multiple projects concurrently
- Report and act on potential IT security risks and incidents
Experience & skills
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
- Minimum of 3 years of systems experience
- Proven experience in Microsoft 365 administration, Azure Identity, SharePoint, OneDrive
- Experience with Microsoft Defender for Endpoint and Microsoft Defender for Cloud
- Domain knowledge in Azure, AWS, and Oracle Cloud infrastructure
- Expertise in IT infrastructure, operating systems (Windows, Linux), and Microsoft SQL Server
- Knowledge of virtualization, high availability, LAN/WAN technologies, and monitoring tools
- Proficiency in scripting or automation using Python and PowerShell
