Job description
The Generalist Lawyer - Disputes and Construction at Omniyat provides comprehensive legal support across real estate, development, construction, corporate, and dispute resolution matters. Responsibilities include managing real estate and corporate transactions, drafting and negotiating a wide array of contracts, overseeing arbitration and DIFC Court cases, and ensuring compliance with zoning, planning, and regulatory requirements. The role also entails preparing and reviewing procurement strategies, coordinating external counsel, and managing property and corporate due diligence. The candidate will draft corporate governance documents and maintain statutory registers, while supporting internal teams through training and contract risk mitigation strategies. The ideal candidate has over five years of post-qualification experience in both law firm and in-house settings, with strong exposure to real estate and development sectors and proven expertise in dispute resolution, construction law, and general corporate legal functions.
Required skills
Key responsibilities
- Provide legal advice on real estate, development, and construction projects to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations
- Draft, review, and negotiate construction contracts, procurement agreements, and related documentation
- Advise on zoning, land use, planning approvals, and regulatory issues related to development
- Prepare and review tender documents and advise on procurement strategies and risk allocation
- Manage and coordinate arbitration proceedings, draft case briefs, and liaise with arbitral institutions
- Oversee common law dispute resolution processes and assess settlement opportunities
- Represent the company in DIFC Courts and manage relationships with external counsel
- Support corporate transactions by drafting and reviewing agreements and conducting due diligence
- Prepare and review sale, purchase, lease, and development agreements
- Conduct property due diligence and title verification, and coordinate mortgage documentation
- Draft and maintain corporate governance documents, including shareholder agreements and board resolutions
- Ensure timely corporate filings and maintain statutory registers
- Provide training and guidance to internal teams on contract management and dispute prevention
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify legal risks and propose commercially viable solutions
- Monitor legal developments and recommend improvements for compliance and risk mitigation
Experience & skills
- Hold 5+ years of post-qualification legal experience with a combination of law firm and in-house exposure
- Demonstrate strong background in real estate and development sectors
- Possess proven expertise in dispute resolution outside of local UAE litigation
- Be experienced in construction contract law and general corporate legal matters
- Exhibit excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication skills
- Be able to work independently and manage multiple priorities
- Display strong commercial acumen to balance legal risks with business objectives
- Have exceptional problem-solving ability and attention to detail
- Be capable of influencing and building relationships with stakeholders at all levels
- Show adaptability and proactivity in a fast-paced environment
