Job description
Transportation systems, bridges, infrastructure, drainage, water treatment, and geotechnical design all fall within scope for this Lead Civil & Structural Engineer position. Roads, rail, airports, and seaports sit alongside underground utilities, hydrology and hydraulics, water resources, raw water supply, tunnels, and other civil engineering works across the full breadth of the role. You work under general supervision but apply advanced engineering techniques independently, making decisions on engineering problems and methods without needing constant oversight. Conferences and negotiations with key engineers and officials from other organizations fall under this role too, representing the organization when important questions need resolving. Technical guidance goes out to designers and less experienced engineers, with associates and others relying heavily on the scientific interpretations and advice this role provides. An assigned staff and budget come with the position, making it accountable for a measurable asset rather than a purely technical function. Skills for this role typically get built through an undergraduate degree in Engineering, a minimum of 7 years of related experience, and an average tenure of 10 or more years in similar positions.
