Job description
The Key Account Specialist is responsible for managing and developing strategic client accounts within the pharmaceutical and healthcare sector. The role focuses on delivering territory sales targets and key performance indicators through structured business planning, effective sales execution, and strong stakeholder engagement. The specialist plays a critical role in building long-term partnerships with key healthcare professionals and institutions across both primary and secondary care sectors. By leveraging deep knowledge of therapy areas, product strategies, competitor activities, and national healthcare systems, the individual ensures optimized territory performance and sustainable revenue growth. The position also requires close collaboration with Regional Business Managers, NHS Liaison Managers, and Marketing teams to align local execution with broader commercial objectives.

Key responsibilities
- Deliver assigned territory sales targets and key performance indicators in line with business objectives
- Conduct compelling, well-structured sales calls and presentations to healthcare professionals and decision-makers
- Compile, implement, monitor, and review the territory business plan in coordination with the RBM and NHS Liaison Manager
- Demonstrate comprehensive understanding of the national and local healthcare systems and their impact on territory potential
- Apply in-depth knowledge of product strategies, therapy areas, competitors, marketing plans, and communication objectives
- Build and maintain long-term relationships with relevant customers to maximize opportunities across primary and secondary care
- Identify and develop local opinion leaders and coordinate speaker meetings and symposia to strengthen brand perception and product adoption
- Provide regular and structured feedback on competitor activity and market intelligence to internal stakeholders
- Monitor account performance, update reports, and refine solution strategies to drive sustainable growth
Experience & skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy or a related medical or life sciences field
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience managing key accounts within the pharmaceutical industry
- Proven track record of achieving high-level sales performance in pharmaceutical, healthcare, or related commercial roles
- Strong commercial acumen with experience managing and optimizing promotional budgets
- Solid understanding of business planning, territory management, and structured account development
- Comprehensive knowledge of the UK pharmaceutical industry and NHS structure, policies, and procurement pathways
- Ability to manage and prioritize resources effectively to maximize return on investment
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills
- Strong analytical thinking and decision-making capabilities
- Action-oriented, energetic, and results-driven mindset with the ability to work independently and collaboratively
