Job description
The Senior Backend Engineer at Wheely in Dubai, UAE, is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining scalable and reliable backend services across dynamic technical teams such as Marketplace, Privacy, Passenger, Supply, and B2B. The role involves working closely with cross-functional teams to gather requirements, analyze and evaluate technical needs, write clean and efficient code primarily in Go, implement new microservices, support legacy services, perform unit, integration, and system testing, review peer code for quality and efficiency, and maintain comprehensive technical documentation. The engineer will work within a stack including Go microservices, Ruby monolith, Node.js, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, RabbitMQ, Thrift, Redis, AWS, Terraform, Kubernetes, and Jenkins, contributing to Wheely's high-end ride-hailing platform across EMEA and the US.

Key responsibilities
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and define project goals
- Analyze, design, and evaluate technical requirements with the team
- Write clean, scalable, and efficient code primarily in Go
- Implement new microservices and maintain existing services
- Perform unit testing and participate in integration and system testing to ensure software quality
- Review and provide feedback on peers' code to ensure consistency, readability, and efficiency
- Write and maintain technical documentation including software design documents and user guides
Experience & skills
- 4+ years of experience developing scalable and reliable backend services
- Proficiency in Go, Ruby, Python, C++, Java, or Kotlin
- In-depth knowledge of databases and messaging systems such as PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis, Kafka, RabbitMQ
- Intermediate or higher proficiency in English
- Experience with Go microservices, Node.js, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, RabbitMQ, Thrift, Redis, AWS, Terraform, Kubernetes, Jenkins is preferred
