Job description
This role is responsible for leading the preparation and review of electrical, instrumentation, and telecom design deliverables for onshore/offshore and drilling projects. The position manages design workloads, checks engineering integrity, prepares technical documentation, and supervises teams of drafters and designers. The Senior Designer ensures compliance with project specifications and standards, executes 3D modeling, supports bid engineering, integrates vendor data, and maintains high-quality output across multi-office project execution. The position requires strong technical expertise in E&I, proficiency with PDMS/Aveva/AutoCAD, and experience working in EPC environments.
Required skills
Key responsibilities
- Develop E&I layouts, SLDs, schematics, hook-ups, 3D models and related design documents
- Plan, distribute, monitor and review the work of drafters and designers
- Support bid engineering activities including estimation of man-hours and materials
- Review design completeness, safety, operability, access and maintainability
- Perform interdisciplinary design checks to maintain design integrity
- Ensure timely production of deliverables including MRs, MTOs and technical documentation
- Review vendor drawings and integrate vendor information into design deliverables
- Conduct site surveys and incorporate findings into design updates
- Manage design changes and identify project risks
- Ensure compliance with project specifications, codes, and company procedures
- Propose design improvements and document lessons learned
- Act as a checker for design documents to ensure accuracy and quality
- Identify software needs and support implementation for the design team
- Supervise project closeout activities including as-built documentation
- Coordinate design activities across multiple office locations
- Mentor and train draftsmen, supporting skill development and performance improvement
- Perform and review 3D models ensuring completeness and correctness
- Support senior/lead engineers in achieving department KPIs
- Ensure compliance with HSES and information security policies
Experience & skills
- Diploma/ITI in Electrical or Instrumentation Engineering
- 8–14 years of experience in E&I design within offshore/onshore/drilling rig projects
- Strong proficiency in PDMS, Aveva or equivalent, and AutoCAD
- Strong understanding of electrical and instrumentation standards and materials
- Experience with site visits, surveys and site deputation
- Ability to supervise teams of designers and drafters
- Strong communication skills across multidisciplinary engineering teams
- Experience with material requisitions, MTOs, vendor data review and 3D modeling
- Familiarity with design safety, operability and maintainability requirements
