Job description
The Impact Evaluation Economist at Strategy&'s Ideation Center focuses on evidence generation and impact evaluation across various sectors and policy areas. The role involves designing and implementing evaluation frameworks and methodologies to assess the effectiveness of economic policies, programs, or interventions, including experimental and quasi-experimental approaches. Responsibilities include managing and analyzing large datasets, applying advanced econometric and statistical methods, conducting cost-benefit and socioeconomic impact assessments, translating findings into actionable policy recommendations, and supporting capacity building for local partners and stakeholders. The economist contributes to thought leadership, report writing, and policy briefs, engages with diverse stakeholders to ensure buy-in and effective implementation, and collaborates with internal and external partners such as think tanks and academic institutions. The position emphasizes advanced analytical and quantitative skills, project management, and strong communication for delivering evidence-based insights that inform economic and policy decision-making.

Key responsibilities
- Develop evaluation frameworks and methodologies for assessing the impact of economic policies, programs, or interventions
- Design and implement impact evaluations using experimental and quasi-experimental approaches
- Oversee data collection, cleaning, and management to ensure quality and reliability for analysis
- Apply advanced econometric and statistical techniques to analyze data and determine causal impacts on economic variables
- Conduct cost-benefit analysis to evaluate the economic efficiency of interventions and inform resource allocation
- Assess broader socioeconomic impacts including employment, income distribution, poverty alleviation, and social welfare outcomes
- Translate research findings into actionable policy recommendations for government agencies, policymakers, and other stakeholders
- Provide technical assistance and training to build capacity in impact evaluation among local partners and stakeholders
- Engage with stakeholders throughout the evaluation process to secure buy-in, data access, and effective implementation
- Develop thought leadership outputs, including reports, papers, and policy briefs, tailored for different audiences and contexts
- Manage multiple projects using agile methodologies while maintaining meaningful relationships across teams and stakeholders
- Coach junior team members and support their development and apprenticeship
- Support partnerships with external knowledge partners and contribute to marketing and communication plans
Experience & skills
- Advanced degree (Masters or Ph.D.) in Economics or related field with focus on econometrics, applied or development economics
- 8+ years of experience conducting impact evaluations or econometric research in relevant sectors or policy areas
- Demonstrated expertise in impact evaluation, cost-benefit analysis, or econometric research
- Experience with advanced analytical tools such as natural language processing and geographic information systems (highly desirable)
- Previous experience in social impact consulting, international organizations, policy or academic institutions, or think tanks (highly desirable)
- Strong knowledge of economic theory, microeconomics, and macroeconomics
- Expertise in alternative impact evaluation methodologies and econometric techniques
- Strong data analytics, visualization, and cost-benefit analysis skills
- Project management skills to handle multiple assignments and stakeholders
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with Arabic competency preferred
