Job description
Petrofac seeks a Manager â Material Management in Abu Dhabi to manage, lead, and monitor all aspects of materials management to control overall materials availabilityâincluding planning, forecasting, costing, receiving, storing, and issuingâto meet project and client objectives. The role ensures compliance with HSSE policy, procedures, and legislation for self and subordinates; consolidates information from Logistics, Delivery, and Construction Managers to design warehouse and laydown area layouts; secures client approval for the Project Materials Management Plan; ensures adherence to the project execution plan and proper activity sequencing; and implements and maintains procedures, systems, and best practices for demand planning and forecasting to meet material requirements. The manager coordinates with Construction and Engineering on material identification and availability in support of installation plans, including equipment requiring special handling; reviews initial master schedules, sequences, and actual progress to ensure materials meet construction-required delivery dates; and interfaces between Construction and Procurement to identify, requisition, and set delivery dates for materials arising from design changes, rework, and scope changes in engineering take-offs. Responsibilities include interfacing with the client on forecasting, demand, and operational planning; reviewing and signing MRVs after QC inspection and client review; reviewing OSND reports and driving resolution with Expediting/Project teams; coordinating with the Preservation Engineer to ensure material preservation per procedure and vendor requirements; maintaining quarantine control for rejected materials with proper identification, storage, and reporting; reviewing MIVs to ensure issuance/transfer to construction/subcontractors; signing MRS in the system and ensuring returns are inspected, labelled, stocked, and preserved; updating the Materials Inventory System after receipts/issues/surplus with inventory reconciliation; analyzing inventory accuracy, levels versus targets, on-time shipping, and surplus/waste/scrap minimization; overseeing resolution of discrepancies and implementing controls to mitigate risks and inaccuracies; and reviewing, monitoring, and recommending enhancements to IT software including inventory control and materials information systems. The role leads the Materials Management teamâorganizing, staffing, recruiting, training, supervising, appraising, and recommending career pathsâparticipates in internal and external audits (Client/PIL), represents Materials Management in management meetings, improves forecasting activities to maintain effective inventory levels, and reviews jobsite plans for warehousing, maintenance, control, handling, and efficient issue to Construction. For surplus sales, duties include identifying surplus via SMCS at construction end, reviewing and accepting Surplus Requisitions and SMRs, ensuring availability of MTCs and MSDS, arranging client handover if required, and arranging handover per Agreement for sale of Surplus Material.

- Interface and coordinate with the client on material forecasting, demand, and operational planning
- Review and sign MRVs after QC inspection and client review; review OSND reports and drive resolution with Expediting/Project teams
- Coordinate with the Preservation Engineer to ensure preservation of materials in stock per procedures and vendor requirements
- Control quarantine (rejected) materials with proper identification, storage, preservation, and reporting
- Review MIVs and ensure proper issuance/transfer to construction and subcontract teams; sign MRS in the system and ensure inspected, labelled returns with correct stocking and preservation
- Update the Materials Inventory System after receiving/issuing/surplus and reconcile inventory quantities
- Analyze KPIs (inventory accuracy, levels vs targets, on-time shipping) and minimize surplus, waste, and scrap
- Oversee resolution of discrepancies and implement controls to address risks, inaccuracies, and variances
- Review, monitor, and recommend enhancements to IT systems (inventory control, materials information)
- Lead the Materials Management team: organize staffing, recruit, train, supervise, appraise performance, and recommend career paths
- Consolidate staff performance reviews and submit recommendations to management
- Participate in and support internal/external audits (Client/PIL) and implement corrective actions to ensure compliance
- Represent Materials Management in management meetings and oversee improvements in forecasting to maintain effective inventory levels
- Review jobsite plans for warehousing, maintenance, control, and handling; ensure efficient material issue to Construction
- Identify surplus materials via SMCS at construction end; review/accept Surplus Requisitions and SMRs; ensure MTCs/MSDS availability; arrange client handover and execute surplus sales per agreement
Experience & skills
- Bachelorâs degree in Engineering (mechanical or electrical preferred)
- Relevant experience in materials management, preferably within EPC Oil & Gas
- Experience managing and coordinating large-scale materials activities and supervising a team of managers
