Job description
Due to the continued success of our GEMS Founders School, Al Mizhar, we are looking to recruit a History Teacher for August 2025. Required skills
Key responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging and effective History lessons aligned with the GCSE curriculum
- Inspire a passion for history through dynamic teaching strategies and well-organized content delivery
- Monitor, assess and report on student achievement and development regularly
- Use assessment data to inform instruction and enhance student learning outcomes
- Contribute to the development of schemes of work and teaching resources for the History department
- Maintain up-to-date subject knowledge and deliver content aligned with the latest UK education standards
- Create a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation and curiosity
- Participate in departmental meetings, school events, and CPD training sessions to support professional growth
- Engage in extracurricular and enrichment activities, including clubs, school trips, and history-based competitions
- Support the schoolâs ethos by contributing to community events and school-wide initiatives
- Collaborate with colleagues to promote cross-curricular links and whole-child development
- Provide constructive feedback to students and maintain open communication with parents and guardians
- Assist with pastoral responsibilities including form tutor duties and student mentoring
Experience & skills
- Bachelorâs degree in History Education or a closely related field with a PGCE/PGDE or equivalent
- BEd in Secondary Education with a focus on History also acceptable
- Minimum 1-2 years of teaching experience at the secondary level, preferably in British curriculum schools
- Proven experience in teaching History up to GCSE level; A-Level experience is a plus
- Strong command of English (spoken and written)
- Experience or willingness to lead extracurricular clubs or student societies
- Familiarity with UK school inspection frameworks, such as Ofsted or BSO standards
- Eligibility to obtain a UAE Work Visa (must possess attested education certificates and a clean criminal record)
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
- Experience working in an international or multicultural school environment is highly desirable
- Willingness to engage with ongoing CPD and in-house professional learning programs
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a team of educators and school leadership
