The Assistant Vice President - Economics role within QNB Group is responsible for managing the full cycle of economic research, macroeconomic analysis, market intelligence generation, and the coordination and finalisation of strategic economic publications for the bank. The role operates within the Group Economics function and oversees the preparation of macroeconomic research outputs that support strategic decision-making across the organization. Responsibilities include managing economic analysis, monitoring economic developments in key international markets, gathering competitive intelligence, and identifying strategic opportunities that may impact the bank’s global operations. The position manages the production and publication of all Group Economics thought leadership outputs including Country Economic Insight Reports, Weekly Economic Commentary, Qatar Monthly Monitor, Global Macro Updates, and ad-hoc bespoke research reports produced for internal stakeholders and external audiences. The incumbent oversees the preparation of macroeconomic forecasts and economic reports that support the bank’s business planning and budget forecasting processes across multiple countries where QNB operates. The role requires managing the effective use of data sources, statistical packages, analytical tools, and research subscriptions necessary to conduct macroeconomic research and produce high-quality economic publications. The Assistant Vice President also coordinates economic research inputs used by internal governance bodies including the Investment Management Committee (IMC), Asset and Liability Management Committee (ALCO), and Group Management Risk Committee (GMRC), as well as economic inputs for Ratings Reports and strategic financial reviews. The role ensures that all economic publications and research outputs meet internal Service Level Agreements (SLAs) while maintaining high analytical quality and timely delivery. Additionally, the position supports investor relations activities related to macroeconomic developments and provides economic insights that support the bank’s financial strategy and investment positioning. The role involves supervising and coaching team members responsible for generating economic analysis, reports, and market intelligence outputs, while supporting recruitment activities within the Group Economics department. The Assistant Vice President is also responsible for implementing KPIs and best practices for the economic research function while promoting cost consciousness, productivity improvement, and efficient utilization of research tools and data resources. The position requires extensive experience in macroeconomic research within a global financial institution and strong expertise in economic analysis, statistical methodologies, and the preparation of economic research reports that inform strategic decision-making within a large multinational banking group.

- Manage the full lifecycle of economic research and macroeconomic analysis activities including the coordination, development, and finalisation of economic reports, market intelligence outputs, and strategic macroeconomic publications produced by the Group Economics department.
- Oversee the production and publication of all Group Economics research outputs including Country Economic Insight Reports, Weekly Economic Commentary, Qatar Monthly Monitor, Global Macro Updates, and bespoke ad-hoc economic reports prepared for internal stakeholders and external audiences.
- Monitor and analyze macroeconomic developments across key international markets where QNB operates, identifying competitive intelligence insights and strategic opportunities that may impact the bank’s financial performance and investment strategy.
- Manage the preparation of macroeconomic forecasts and economic research inputs used in business planning and budget forecasting processes across multiple countries and financial markets.
- Ensure the effective use and management of analytical tools, statistical packages, economic databases, and research subscriptions required to conduct macroeconomic research and support the workflow of the Group Economics function.
- Coordinate economic analysis and research deliverables required for internal governance and strategic committees including the Investment Management Committee (IMC), Asset and Liability Management Committee (ALCO), and Group Management Risk Committee (GMRC), as well as economic inputs for Ratings Reports.
- Maintain compliance with internal Service Level Agreements (SLAs) by ensuring timely delivery and high-quality standards for economic research outputs, while improving turnaround time for analytical reports and publications.
- Support team development within the Group Economics department by assisting with recruitment, providing coaching to managers and associates involved in economic research and report generation, and reinforcing performance standards aligned with the bank’s mission and values.
Experience & skills
- Hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Economics, Market Research, or an equivalent academic discipline relevant to macroeconomic analysis and financial research.
- Possess at least 10 years of professional experience within the economics department of a global financial institution with proven responsibility for conducting macroeconomic analysis and economic research.
- Demonstrate a minimum of five years of professional experience working as an economist with responsibilities involving macroeconomic forecasting, economic research, and preparation of analytical reports.
- Show proven experience writing macroeconomic and economic research reports including country economic analysis, global macroeconomic updates, and financial market intelligence publications.
- Demonstrate experience managing or supervising small research teams within an economic research, macroeconomic analysis, or financial research environment.
- Possess strong analytical capabilities in macroeconomic research, statistical analysis, economic forecasting, and the interpretation of global economic indicators affecting financial markets.
- Demonstrate experience using analytical tools, statistical packages, research databases, and economic data sources required for macroeconomic research and financial analysis.
- Hold advanced academic qualifications such as a Master’s degree or PhD in Economics from a top global university as an advantage for conducting high-level macroeconomic analysis and research.
