Job description
The Lab Technician at The Westminster School ā Dubai supports the science department in practical lessons, technical preparation, safety compliance, and resource management. This hands-on role involves preparing apparatus and chemicals, assisting teachers and students during practical sessions, maintaining lab equipment and safety protocols, and ensuring efficient storage and disposal of materials. The technician will be responsible for managing stock, repairing and maintaining equipment, and providing expert advice on lab safety and technical procedures, contributing to a safe and innovative learning environment.

Key responsibilities
- Organize and provide technical support for science practical lessons and demonstrations.
- Prepare and assemble lab apparatus and clear it promptly post-lessons.
- Advise teachers and students on technical procedures and lab safety.
- Conduct risk assessments and monitor lab safety standards and procedures.
- Maintain order and cleanliness in prep rooms and laboratories.
- Design, construct, and modify laboratory apparatus as needed.
- Set up and care for live plant and animal collections.
- Prepare standard solutions and handle chemical waste and hazardous materials.
- Stay updated on lab safety practices and attend relevant training courses.
- Monitor and maintain lab equipment including fume cupboards and first-aid kits.
- Repair or replace lab equipment as required.
- Liaise with operations team to ensure lab functionality and cleanliness.
- Ensure availability and proper storage of materials and suggest cost-effective alternatives.
- Maintain inventory and stock control records of chemicals and lab resources.
Experience & skills
- Bachelorās degree or equivalent in a science-related subject.
- Experience in a lab or practical science setting (school, hospital, lab, or industry).
- Knowledge of lab safety, equipment handling, and chemical preparation.
- Well-organized, proactive, and capable of managing resources efficiently.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong focus on learner support and teamwork.
- Ability to problem solve and deliver consistent results.
- Understanding of health and safety standards in laboratory environments.
- Ability to conduct and document risk assessments.
