Job description
The Senior Planner at Wood will be responsible for preparing, reviewing, and reporting accurate project schedules and plans to ensure robust project control across the lifecycle of major onshore brownfield projects in Dubai. The role requires advanced planning expertise in Primavera (P6), WBS/CBS structures, resource loading, and earned value management, alongside strong project control capabilities. The Senior Planner will act as the planning focal point, liaising with engineering, procurement, construction, and cost control teams to monitor progress, assess impacts of changes, and ensure timely and accurate reporting. This senior role also involves leading a team of planners, mentoring junior staff, and driving continuous improvement in scheduling practices while ensuring project deliverables align with contractual and corporate requirements.

Key responsibilities
- Prepare, review, and maintain project schedules and plans across all lifecycle phases (Pre-FEED, FEED, Detailed Engineering)
- Establish planning control structures aligned with approved Work Breakdown Structure (WBS)
- Maintain baseline project schedules with critical path and resource allocation clearly defined
- Monitor and report on project progress, major milestones, and performance against planned targets
- Analyze schedule updates, manpower requirements, and assess impacts of changes and notifications
- Conduct schedule risk analyses and support project controls compliance reviews
- Provide planning support across engineering, procurement, and construction disciplines
- Coordinate with cost control teams to ensure integrated cost and schedule reporting
- Issue project schedules, plans, and progress reports in line with reporting requirements
- Supervise and mentor the planning team, reviewing outputs and guiding professional development
- Ensure planning processes, procedures, and standards are maintained and improved
- Participate in project meetings and communicate scheduling insights and recommendations
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives within the planning discipline
Experience & skills
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical or business discipline (or equivalent vocational/industry experience)
- 10–15 years of relevant planning and scheduling experience in Oil & Gas or EPC environments
- Advanced proficiency in Primavera (P6) and scheduling software
- Deep knowledge of WBS, CBS, project controls, and execution procedures
- Strong experience in logic and CPM analysis, resource loading, and levelling
- Proven expertise in earned value management and schedule variance analysis
- Experience preparing level 3 schedules for FEED studies and engineering contracts
- Ability to assess impacts of change requests and communicate effectively to stakeholders
- Prior experience in a senior planning role with leadership and mentoring responsibilities
- Strong understanding of cost management, change control, and risk management
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to work on-site in Dubai with potential travel to Iraq or other client locations
