Job description
The Technical Superintendent – Vessel Operations at DP World in Dubai, UAE, is responsible for overseeing the daily operational and technical management of assigned vessels within the marine fleet. This senior role involves supervising vessel activities, ensuring technical and operational compliance, and maintaining budgetary oversight for operating and capital expenditures. The position requires close coordination with the Procurement Department to optimize spare parts supply and achieve cost savings through effective supply chain management. The Technical Superintendent ensures all maintenance and repair activities are performed according to manufacturer recommendations and industry best practices, including refits, dry-docking, major repairs, and mobilisation activities. The role enforces the company’s health, safety, environment, and quality (HSE/Q) policies onboard, liaises with HSSEQ departments, and monitors vessel conditions through regular inspections and reporting. The Technical Superintendent manages preventive maintenance systems (PMS), revises work orders and standard jobs, and works with workshop teams to safely execute maintenance internally while reducing reliance on third-party contractors. The position involves training, supervising, and providing operational guidance to the technical team, while ensuring timely closure of requisitions, cost tracking against approved budgets, and successful execution of dry-docking and other technical projects. The role contributes to the operational readiness, reliability, and safety of the fleet while supporting continuous improvement initiatives within marine operations.

Key responsibilities
- Supervise daily operational activities of all assigned vessels to ensure safe and efficient operations.
- Assist and monitor colleagues during absences to maintain continuity of vessel operations.
- Provide regular updates to the Line Manager on vessel operations, budgetary performance, and any untoward incidents.
- Assist in the preparation and technical management of operating and capital budgets for assigned vessels.
- Coordinate with the Procurement Department to manage supply of spare parts, optimizing costs and aligning with vessel trading commitments.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities through innovative supply chain and procurement practices.
- Ensure all maintenance is performed to high standards and in accordance with manufacturer recommendations.
- Implement and promote HSE/Q policies onboard vessels and liaise with HSSEQ to ensure compliance.
- Conduct regular vessel inspections and generate reports on vessel condition and performance.
- Plan, oversee, and execute refits, dry-docking, major repairs, and mobilisation activities within budget limits.
- Train and supervise the technical team, providing guidance on day-to-day operations and technical tasks.
- Monitor preventive maintenance systems (PMS) and revise standard jobs, work orders, and updates as necessary.
- Collaborate with the Workshop Superintendent to manage maintenance activities safely and efficiently, reducing reliance on third-party contractors.
- Close out all requisitions raised in coordination with Procurement within allotted timeframes.
- Track and monitor technical costs against approved budgets and ensure financial control over technical operations.
Experience & skills
- Hold a Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field.
- Proven experience in marine operations or technical vessel management.
- Demonstrated knowledge of vessel maintenance, dry-docking, and marine technical operations.
- Ability to manage budgets, track costs, and oversee procurement processes effectively.
- Experience leading and supervising technical teams in operational environments.
- Familiarity with HSE/Q compliance standards in marine operations.
- Strong planning, reporting, and operational coordination skills.
