Job description
Linxon, a joint venture between AtkinsRéalis and Hitachi Energy, is seeking an experienced Structural Engineer to join its Abu Dhabi team. The successful candidate will focus on structural design and analysis for high-voltage substation projects, ensuring alignment with TAQA and TRANSCO specifications. This role is ideal for professionals experienced in the power transmission or utility sectors who can integrate civil, structural, and electrical design elements in complex infrastructure environments. The Structural Engineer will oversee design development from concept to construction, review contractor submissions, ensure compliance with UAE building codes, and provide technical support throughout project execution. The position offers the opportunity to work on landmark substation projects that contribute to sustainable energy infrastructure across the region.
Required skills
Key responsibilities
- Develop detailed structural designs for GIS substations (400kV, 220kV, 132kV, 33kV)
- Perform structural analysis using software such as STAAD Pro, ETABS, SAFE, or SAP2000
- Coordinate with electrical, civil, and architectural teams to ensure integrated substation designs
- Review and approve design documentation and contractor submissions to ensure compliance with TAQA/TRANSCO standards
- Provide technical input and guidance during construction and conduct site visits as required
- Prepare and issue structural design calculations, drawings, and reports in accordance with project requirements
- Collaborate with clients, consultants, and government authorities to secure design approvals
- Ensure project delivery meets schedule, quality, and HSE objectives
- Support value engineering initiatives to optimize designs while maintaining structural integrity
Experience & skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (Master’s preferred)
- Minimum 7–10 years of experience in structural design for high-voltage substation projects
- Experience with TAQA and TRANSCO projects is essential
- Strong knowledge of UAE building regulations, ACI codes, and local utility standards
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and structural analysis software (STAAD Pro, ETABS, SAFE, SAP2000)
- Excellent project coordination and communication skills
- Proven ability to manage multiple stakeholders and ensure compliance across technical disciplines
- Experience providing technical support during construction phases, including site inspections
- Strong understanding of HSE and quality assurance standards applicable to infrastructure projects
