Job description
The Reliability Engineer – High Voltage is responsible for driving asset reliability performance and ensuring high reliability of plant and associated high voltage equipment within an integrated steel plant or equivalent heavy industry environment. The role focuses on continuous improvement of asset performance across the full equipment lifecycle by developing and implementing cost-effective maintenance and reliability strategies. The engineer leads Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA), Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM), and FMECA initiatives, analyzes equipment history and condition monitoring data, and identifies improvement opportunities to enhance MTBF, reduce MTTR, minimize unplanned downtime, and optimize maintenance costs. The position actively supports shutdowns, breakdowns, and capital projects by embedding reliability into asset design and ensuring operational readiness at commissioning. The role also includes optimizing critical spare parts, maintaining failure databases, supporting 10-year capital planning, and driving reliability KPIs while ensuring compliance with health and safety standards.
Required skills
Key responsibilities
- Capture, analyze, and interpret maintenance data and equipment work histories to develop reliability improvement recommendations
- Lead Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) investigations and implement corrective and preventive actions to eliminate recurrence of failures
- Facilitate and lead Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) and FMECA studies to develop disciplined maintenance strategies
- Identify and manage equipment 'bad actors', create action plans, and monitor performance against reliability improvement targets
- Analyze operational data and machine performance history to reduce unscheduled downtime and improve MTBF, MTTR, PM compliance, and schedule adherence
- Support shutdowns and breakdown events by providing discipline-specific engineering expertise
- Provide reliability input into capital projects and ensure new assets are designed with reliability principles and commissioned with operational readiness
- Optimize critical spare parts inventory and maintain asset lifecycle information, including 10-year capital replacement planning
- Monitor reliability KPIs and historical trends to proactively identify and resolve performance issues
- Lead assigned reliability improvement projects and provide training and coaching on maintenance and reliability best practices
Experience & skills
- University degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
- Minimum 5 years of mechanical or electrical maintenance experience in an integrated steel plant or equivalent heavy industry
- Strong knowledge of preventive maintenance programs and failure detection tools including vibration analysis, oil monitoring, and thermography
- Experience with condition monitoring software and advanced computer proficiency
- Hands-on experience with RCM, FMECA, and reliability tools and methodologies
- Strong understanding of asset lifecycle management and capital replacement planning
- Experience with health and safety compliance systems
- Ability to drive performance improvement across cross-functional maintenance and operations teams
- Integrated steelworks experience preferred
- Middle East working experience preferred
