Job description
The Head of Teaching, Learning and Assessments at The Westminster School ā Dubai, part of GEMS Education, is responsible for leading the continuous improvement of teaching quality, assessment systems, and student outcomes across all Key Stages in alignment with the National Curriculum for England. The role involves ensuring that teaching and learning standards progress toward 'Outstanding' through effective quality assurance processes, self-evaluation, and targeted staff development. The position also oversees the examinations and data teams to ensure that assessment practices drive teaching improvements and improved academic results. This senior leadership role includes developing and implementing improvement plans, reporting to the Senior Team and Local Advisory Board, and ensuring that policies and procedures are consistently followed. The Head of Teaching, Learning and Assessments must be adept at strategic thinking, staff leadership, and data-informed decision-making, while fostering innovation, resilience, and excellence within a multicultural educational environment. The role requires Qualified Teacher Status, advanced degrees, and substantial leadership experience in teaching, learning, and assessment management within a diverse school setting.

Key responsibilities
- Ensure that the quality of teaching, learning, and assessment (TLA) continues to progress towards an Outstanding standard across the school.
- Ensure that high-quality assessment directly leads to teaching improvements and enhanced student outcomes.
- Develop, implement, and monitor robust quality assurance and self-evaluation systems across the school.
- Oversee the writing and continual updating of the Self Evaluation Form (SEF) for all aspects related to TLA.
- Create and execute improvement plans based on internal and external evaluations related to teaching and learning.
- Report to the Senior Team and Local Advisory Board (LAB) on TLA quality, improvement initiatives, and outcomes.
- Identify areas for professional development through QA findings and address them through targeted staff training programs.
- Lead the induction program for new teachers, ensuring effective integration and professional growth.
- Lead the examinations and data teams to develop and maintain efficient assessment systems that support academic achievement.
- Monitor and report on student progress at all Key Stages, taking corrective actions as necessary to improve outcomes.
- Provide academic and pastoral guidance to students, particularly during examination periods.
- Ensure smooth operation and compliance of examinations and assessments across the school.
- Ensure school-wide adherence to educational policies and procedures related to teaching and learning.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and high performance among staff and students.
Experience & skills
- Bachelorās and Masterās degrees in a core subject area.
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is mandatory.
- Proven experience as a Head of Department or in a senior leadership role overseeing teaching, learning, and assessments in a multicultural school.
- Comprehensive understanding of the National Curriculum for England.
- Strong leadership and organizational skills with the ability to drive school-wide initiatives.
- Proven ability to use strategic thinking and initiative in solving complex problems.
- Capability to develop and implement new educational policies and procedures effectively.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for engaging with staff, students, and governing bodies.
- Innovative mindset with a capacity to develop lateral, evidence-based solutions to academic challenges.
- High energy, enthusiasm, and resilience with the ability to perform under pressure and manage time effectively.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of students, with a requirement for UK-enhanced DBS or equivalent police clearance.
