Job description
Around 600 million BOE of contingent resources across Maydan Mahzam, Bul Hanine and Al-Rayyan are waiting to be matured into reserves, and the front end studies that make that possible are led by this Head, Reservoir Studies. Geologists, Geophysicists, Petrophysicists and Reservoir Engineers make up the team of 10 you supervise, covering both developed and discovered undeveloped reserves. Integrated reservoir studies, run internally or outsourced to contractors and international oil companies, aim to optimise recovery of oil, gas and condensate within agreed goals and budget. Subsurface models behind field development plans need sound assumptions on geology, geophysics, petrophysics, PVT, SCAL and reservoir properties. Each year brings the Annual Review of Reserves under QP-PRMS-based guidelines, long-term production forecasts, reservoir management plans and the budget cycle. Well proposals for appraisal, near field exploration, production and injection wells carry your team's input, and drilling, workover and abandonment plans come to you for review. Contracts for study services are initiated and managed here, which calls for good commercial judgement. Candidates need 15+ years in upstream oil and gas, including at least 10 in reservoir geosciences, reservoir engineering and subsurface field development, plus a BSc in Geoscience or Engineering, with an MSc or PhD desirable.
Required skills
Key responsibilities
- Lead the front end studies to mature around 600 million BOE of contingent resources to reserves across MM, BH and ALR
- Manage the asset study team, planning and coordinating geological, geophysical, petrophysical and reservoir engineering work on all MM and ALR reservoirs
- Initiate internal and external integrated geosciences and reservoir studies to optimise recovery of oil, gas and condensate
- Ensure geological, geophysical, petrophysical, PVT, SCAL and reservoir property assumptions in subsurface models are sound
- Coordinate in-place volume estimates and prepare the Annual Review of Reserves under QP-PRMS-based guidelines
- Produce long-term oil, gas and condensate production forecasts
- Contribute to annual reservoir management plans for field performance optimisation
- Provide geosciences and reservoir engineering input to appraisal, near field exploration, production and injection well proposals
- Review drilling, workover and well abandonment plans
- Identify subsurface uncertainties and plan data acquisition to mitigate the associated risks
- Participate in the annual budget process
- Recommend objectives and deliverables for studies that define future field development strategies
- Define the number and location of new wells for QP operated oil fields
- Administer competitively awarded contracts for study services and set their deliverables
- Recruit and retain geosciences and reservoir engineering professionals, including sitting on interview panels
- Develop staff to internationally competitive standards and prepare development plans for Developees
