The Chief of Staff for the Defense and Security global taskforce within Oliver Wyman’s Business Impact Team (BIT) plays a central role in the strategic and commercial development, operations, and community building of Marsh’s and Oliver Wyman’s Defense & Security (D&S) task force. The role supports Oliver Wyman Defense & Security Leadership by managing day-to-day operations and acting as the go-to-person for all task force-related matters. The position translates Marsh’s and Oliver Wyman’s Defense & Security vision into strategic initiatives, performance metrics, and operational plans, supporting the D&S strategy roll-out and enabling collaboration across Marsh businesses in the implementation of Marsh’s Defense & Security growth acceleration strategy. The role acts as a thought partner to leadership, orchestrating cross-functional collaboration with Finance, Business Development, Marketing, Legal, Talent, IT, Knowledge, and Events while ensuring commercial performance, investments, and people decisions align with strategic objectives. Responsibilities include implementing the Marsh Defense and Security Strategy Initiative, standing up security clearance and security office functions in geographies, refining Marsh six priority go-to-market propositions, managing monthly Marsh Defense SteerCos and governance, and supporting risk & compliance governance. The role supports practice management across commercial, people, and capability functions including global account planning, performance tracking, new global ventures, global and regional pyramid forecasting, recruitment coordination, objective setting, professional development support, global partnerships, new methods and tools, and business development coordination including RFP and proposal planning, resourcing and submission ownership, and global proposition development. Additional responsibilities include knowledge management through global primer development, credentials management, onboarding of consultants, research coordination with Knowledge Services, thought leadership through publication drafting, global campaign management with Marketing, and event planning and management. The role requires experience with confidential and business-critical issues and advanced proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint, with knowledge of advanced data analysis as a plus. The organization operates within a hybrid work model requiring at least three days per week in office or onsite with clients, supporting collaboration, professional development, and flexible working arrangements. Key responsibilities
- Implement the Marsh Defense and Security Strategy Initiative by translating leadership vision into actionable strategic initiatives, defining performance metrics, building operational plans, coordinating cross-functional stakeholders across Finance, Business Development, Marketing, Legal, Talent, IT, Knowledge, and Events, and ensuring alignment of commercial performance, investments, and people decisions with global Defense & Security growth objectives
- Manage governance and leadership operations including organizing and managing monthly Marsh Defense SteerCos, establishing governance frameworks, supporting risk & compliance governance, preparing executive-level materials, tracking action items, facilitating leadership decision-making, and ensuring timely follow-up on strategic initiatives across global stakeholders
- Drive commercial practice management activities including global account planning, performance tracking against plan, identifying new global ventures, supporting growth opportunities, managing pipeline visibility, coordinating sales efforts, and ensuring alignment of commercial priorities with Defense & Security strategic objectives
- Coordinate global talent and workforce planning activities including global and regional pyramid forecasting, supply versus demand planning, recruitment coordination across internal and external hiring, supporting objective setting, professional development initiatives, and enabling workforce capability growth across Defense & Security teams
- Lead business development coordination including RFP planning, proposal resourcing, submission ownership, coordinating cross-functional proposal teams, supporting global proposition development alongside Partners and Principals, and ensuring consistent messaging aligned with Defense & Security strategy
- Oversee knowledge management initiatives including global primer development, credentials management for future projects and proposals, onboarding of new Defense & Security consultants, coordinating learning and development support, and maintaining centralized knowledge assets for the taskforce
- Support research and thought leadership initiatives including coordinating with Knowledge Services on high-priority topics, drafting publications alongside Partners and Principals, managing global campaigns with Marketing, and contributing to market positioning in Defense & Security domains
- Plan and manage events and stakeholder engagement activities including global campaign coordination, event planning and execution, collaboration with Marketing teams, and supporting community building across the global Defense & Security taskforce
Experience & skills
- Demonstrate a minimum of 6+ years of experience at a leading management consulting firm with exposure to strategic planning, operational execution, governance support, and business management within complex global organizations, with preferred experience supporting Defense & Security or government clients
- Possess experience handling confidential and business-critical issues including executive-level communications, strategic planning materials, governance documentation, and sensitive commercial initiatives within global consulting environments
- Exhibit advanced proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint including data analysis, executive presentation development, performance tracking dashboards, and operational planning materials, with knowledge of advanced data analysis techniques considered an advantage
- Demonstrate experience coordinating cross-functional stakeholders across Finance, Business Development, Marketing, Legal, Talent, IT, Knowledge, and Events while supporting leadership teams in implementing strategic initiatives and operational programs
- Show experience supporting business development activities including RFP management, proposal development, global account planning, pipeline tracking, commercial performance monitoring, and proposition development
- Demonstrate experience in workforce planning including pyramid forecasting, recruitment coordination, supply and demand planning, professional development support, and capability development within consulting organizations
- Possess knowledge management and research coordination experience including primer development, credentials management, onboarding support, knowledge asset creation, and collaboration with Knowledge Services teams
- Demonstrate experience supporting thought leadership and marketing initiatives including publication drafting, campaign management, event planning, stakeholder engagement, and market positioning activities within Defense & Security or consulting environments
