Job description
The HSE Lead (HSE Engineer) based in Woodâs Khobar office in Saudi Arabia provides strategic advice and hands-on support across technically challenging projects in the Oil & Gas market sector, aligning with Wood group HSE annual objectives and initiatives while enabling predictable, safe, and fast project delivery. The role covers Safety Management System (SMS) awareness, process safety, and PMT experience, and includes drafting, rolling out, and monitoring company and Group HSE objectives; supporting Business Unit/Contract/Project Managers and HSE Advisors; and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and regulations. The position leads and supports incident and accident investigations using recognized methodologies (e.g., Helix, TapRooT), performs lagging indicator reviews to identify trends, advises senior managers on corrective actions and leading-edge HSE initiatives, and completes Management Support Visits to installations and work sites. Responsibilities include timely reporting of leading and lagging indicators; mentorship and training for graduates/new recruits; cross-Business Unit support; HSE inductions for new starts; and developing HSE presentations to support inductions and Group initiatives. The role requires a NEBOSH Certificate/Diploma (essential), ONC/HNC or equivalent in a technical/HSE field, a bachelorâs degree in engineering, and 5+ yearsâ technical or HSE-associated experience (including project/contract exposure in Oil & Gas). Strong planning, organizational, and communication skills, effective use of MS Office, and excellent knowledge of applicable legislation/regulations are necessary to deliver continuous improvement toward net zero within diverse, global project environments.

- Provide strategic advice and guidance to managers on all HSE-related matters across projects and contracts
- Roll out Group HSE annual objectives and initiatives and translate them into company HSE objectives
- Support Business Unit/Contract/Project Managers and HSE Advisors in developing and implementing Group HSE objectives and initiatives
- Support incident and accident investigations using approved methodologies (e.g., Helix, TapRooT) and ensure timely close-out of actions
- Monitor best practice and develop leading-edge HSE initiatives appropriate to the supported business
- Conduct Management Support Visits to installations and work sites to verify HSE implementation and performance
- Support timely reporting of leading and lagging HSE indicators to senior management and corporate functions
- Review lagging indicators, analyze incident/accident trends, and recommend actions and initiatives to senior and corporate management
- Provide mentorship and training for graduate/new recruits within the HSE team and offer cross-Business Unit support as required
- Deliver HSE inductions for new starters and develop HSE presentation materials to support inductions and Group initiatives
Experience & skills
- Experience in SMS awareness, process safety, and PMT activities
- ONC/HNC or equivalent in Technical/HSE or related industry
- Bachelorâs degree in Engineering
- NEBOSH Certificate/Diploma (essential)
- 5+ years in a technical role or associated HSE role; HSE Engineer experience with project/contract exposure in Oil & Gas or other industry
- Excellent working knowledge of relevant legislation and regulations
- Good planning and organizational skills with effective use of MS Office Suite
