Job description
Jacobs, a global leader in engineering and infrastructure solutions, is seeking a Performance-Based Seismic Design Engineer to join its Buildings & Logistics team in Dubai. The role focuses on delivering resilient, sustainable, and future-ready structures across the Middle East, emphasizing mid-rise and high-rise buildings, complex facilities, and critical infrastructure. The engineer will apply advanced seismic analysis techniques, nonlinear modeling, and performance-driven design approaches to mitigate risk, enhance safety, and provide long-term value. Responsibilities include coordinating engineering design and calculations in compliance with international codes, delivering performance-based seismic design solutions, developing advanced nonlinear structural models, conducting nonlinear static and dynamic analyses, applying state-of-the-art seismic methodologies, preparing technical reports and design documentation, and supporting seismic risk assessments. The engineer will work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to integrate seismic strategies into broader project objectives, contributing to innovation initiatives, digital delivery, and continuous improvement. The role demands technical depth in structural dynamics, nonlinear material behavior, earthquake engineering, and familiarity with international seismic codes while supporting Jacobsā mission of technical excellence and resilient built environments.
Required skills
Key responsibilities
- Coordinate engineering design and calculations in compliance with international codes and best practices to ensure safe, efficient, and code-compliant building designs
- Deliver performance-based seismic design (PBSD) solutions for mid-rise and high-rise buildings, complex facilities, and critical infrastructure projects
- Develop advanced nonlinear structural models and perform nonlinear static and dynamic analyses to evaluate seismic performance and structural resilience
- Apply state-of-the-art seismic methodologies to ensure resilient, efficient, and cost-effective designs while mitigating risk for clients
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate seismic design strategies within broader project objectives and ensure alignment across engineering, architecture, and construction teams
- Prepare technical reports, design documentation, and analysis summaries for internal and external stakeholders, ensuring clarity and accuracy of project information
- Support seismic risk assessments, including ground-motion selection and performance evaluation across multiple hazard levels to guide design decisions
- Contribute to innovation initiatives, digital delivery, and continuous improvement processes within the structural engineering team to enhance efficiency and design quality
Experience & skills
- Bachelorās degree in Civil or Structural Engineering with strong foundation in structural dynamics, nonlinear behavior, and earthquake engineering principles
- Minimum of 15 years of experience delivering performance-based seismic design for buildings in moderate to high seismic regions
- Proficiency with industry-standard structural analysis software such as ETABS, PERFORM-3D, and SAP2000
- Familiarity with international seismic codes and guidelines, including ASCE 7, ASCE 41, IBC, ACI, and tall building design standards
- Strong ability to develop and implement nonlinear structural models and perform advanced seismic analyses
- Experience in preparing technical documentation, design reports, and analysis summaries for internal and external stakeholders
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in global, multidisciplinary project teams with architects, engineers, and construction professionals
- Commitment to innovation, continuous improvement, and adherence to Jacobsā core values of safety, integrity, and technical excellence
