Job description
The Turnaround Engineer at Saudi Aramco's Maintenance Solution Department (MSD) under Global Manufacturing Excellence (GME) is responsible for providing expert turnaround management services for refining and petrochemical plants. This role involves conducting turnaround assurance reviews, lifecycle deliverable evaluations, and implementation of stage-gated turnaround processes. The engineer is tasked with leading scope, schedule, and risk workshops, advising on best practices, and supporting performance improvements across wholly owned assets and affiliates. Additional responsibilities include managing turnaround KPIs, influencing planning teams, promoting knowledge sharing through a Community of Practice, and staying current with technological advancements. Candidates must have a strong foundation in turnaround planning tools like Prometheus, ROSER, Primavera P6, and SAP, and ideally hold a PMP certification. A minimum of 12 years of experience in turnaround management in the downstream oil and gas sector is required, along with deep familiarity with Solomon indices, cost benchmarking, and contracting strategies.

Key responsibilities
- Assist or lead turnaround assurance or cold-eye reviews of turnaround preparations at various facilities
- Review the quality and progress of turnaround deliverables across lifecycle phases and provide improvement recommendations
- Motivate and influence turnaround planning teams to implement best practices and lessons learned
- Review implementation of stage-gated turnaround processes in facilities
- Conduct or assist with risk management, scope challenge, and schedule challenge workshops
- Review and support KPI development and tracking for turnaround performance
- Stay abreast of new technologies to enhance turnaround outcomes
- Lead and facilitate the Community of Practice to share best practices across assets
- Support post-turnaround activities including critiques, reporting, and documenting lessons learned
Experience & skills
- Hold a bachelor’s degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical Engineering
- Have at least 12 years of experience in turnaround management in the Oil & Gas downstream sector
- Demonstrate experience with planning and execution of turnarounds in refining and petrochemical environments
- Be proficient with turnaround software including Prometheus, ROSER, Primavera P6, and SAP
- Have knowledge of stage-gated turnaround concepts and assurance review processes
- Possess understanding of Solomon competitiveness indices for turnaround benchmarking
- Demonstrate experience in turnaround budgeting, cost optimization, contracting strategy, and technical bid evaluations
- Have experience in material and resource management during turnarounds
- Experience in post-turnaround critique, reporting, and lessons learned documentation
- Hold Project Management Professional (PMP) certification (preferred)
