Job description
The job holder acts as a coach, supporting the more junior team members to ensure the effectiveness of the Research Unit. He/she should apply intensive and diversified knowledge of material characterisation (from both APS and/or MAS areas), transformation process and polymerisation technologies in broad areas of assignments, ensuring the resolution of unprecedented research problems. The job holder will work as a cluster leader and mentor for a given polymer characterisation area (from APS or MAS). He/she should consistently improve the performance of the cluster. This position is a recognized international authority/expert within more than one area of expertise (from APS and/or MAS). At this level he/she should proactively develop and train team members at lower levels, within at least one area of expertise (from APS and/or MAS). Proactive input to development projects and support on customer developments are a requirement for this level. He/she should proactively monitor external developments in own field, leading and exploring new research techniques and concepts. The position holder should act as interface between different groups, e.g., R&D groups, Laboratories, Business Units, Marketing, IPR and external customers.

Key responsibilities
- Plans, schedules, conducts or coordinates detailed phases of work for projects while aligning with business goals.
- Performs, reviews, and approves technical analysis data entry according to specifications.
- Follows departmental policies, procedures, and SOPs to maintain controlled operations.
- Motivates and coaches team members to meet project quality standards.
- Coordinates and integrates lower-level projects for complete solution implementation.
- Evaluates and interprets data from APS and/or MAS to report to project owners.
- Solves unprecedented research problems and contributes strategic technical solutions.
- Handles patenting processes including claims writing and FTO evaluations.
- Leads and explores new research techniques and concepts.
- Guides validation of test methods in assigned areas.
- Plans technical evaluation of new equipment.
- Supervises inter-laboratory round-robins and testing programs.
- Defines maintenance protocols, calibrations, and corrective actions.
- Acts as contact for external suppliers in case of equipment issues.
- Complies with safety and fire rules, ensures lab safety adherence.
- Maintains lab housekeeping and relevant files.
- Provides theoretical training and mentors junior staff.
- Acts as deputy for Lab Management when needed.
- Submits and presents technical papers and represents Borouge at conferences.
- Provides hands-on training and qualification in APS/MAS fields.
- Maintains external and internal stakeholder relationships.
Experience & skills
- PhD in Polymer Science & Technology or equivalent.
- 15 years of relevant research and laboratory experience.
- Expertise in polymer chemistry, physics, and processing technology.
- Experience with patenting processes and scientific publications.
- Deep knowledge of APS and/or MAS methods.
- Experience mentoring and coaching junior researchers.
- Strong IT proficiency and statistical analysis skills.
- Excellent knowledge of polymer-to-product processes.
- Understanding of external research institute capabilities.
- Excellent written and verbal English; other languages desirable.
- Experience representing organizations at conferences and standards committees.
- Ability to train in multiple characterisation techniques.
