Job description
The Principal Electrical Engineer at Mott MacDonald in Riyadh is responsible for leading the design, implementation, and management of Electrical Building Services projects across private and public sectors, including infrastructure, commercial, hospitality, education, sports, residential, and healthcare projects. The role involves preparing and reviewing documentation such as basis of designs, technical/design specifications, procurement specifications, assessment reports, and surveys. The engineer conducts detailed surveys to evaluate existing installations, develops new or upgrade design proposals, produces and reviews design drawings and calculations, prepares fee estimates, advises on energy utilization, and monitors project execution against agreed programs. The position requires managing internal and external stakeholders, supporting senior managers in commercial and contractual matters, mentoring junior engineers, and leading multi-disciplinary project teams. The role demands proficiency with industry software (Amtech, IES, Relux, Revit), BIM, up-to-date knowledge of building regulations and standards, strong project management skills, and the ability to deliver high-quality, complex projects while fostering team development and client satisfaction.

Key responsibilities
- Prepare and review documentation including basis of designs, technical/design specifications, procurement specifications, assessment reports, and survey reports
- Conduct detailed surveys of Electrical Building Services and equipment to assess existing installations and inform design proposals
- Produce and review Electrical Building Services design drawings and calculations for accuracy and compliance
- Prepare fee estimates for project work elements and advise on energy consumption and efficiency improvements
- Monitor design and project management of building services elements to ensure adherence to program, quality, and safety standards
- Support, mentor, and coach junior Electrical Building Services engineers to develop technical skills
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary engineering teams and liaise with clients, consultants, and contractors to address technical queries
- Manage internal and external stakeholders, ensuring client satisfaction and alignment with project objectives
- Support senior managers with commercial and contractual aspects of projects
- Develop, maintain, and monitor schedules and reporting for project deliverables
- Maximize project profitability, monitor budgets, anticipate potential problems, and communicate effectively with clients
- Lead Electrical Building Services in multi-disciplinary projects, providing specialist technical advice and ensuring quality outputs
- Supervise and manage the work of professionally qualified staff and maintain professional networks internally and externally
Experience & skills
- Member of the Saudi Council of Engineers
- CEng and membership of CIBSE or IET
- Degree in Building Services Engineering (Electrical) or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience
- Senior-level experience in Electrical Building Services engineering in consultancy or built environment projects
- Experience across commercial, hospitality, education, sports, residential, and healthcare sectors
- Up-to-date knowledge of building regulations, legislation, and standards in the Built Environment
- Proficiency in industry software including Amtech, IES, Relux, and Revit
- BIM knowledge and experience
- Ability to work autonomously and make technical decisions with confidence
