Job description
The Principal Business Developer at QatarEnergy leads the identification, evaluation, and negotiation of global business opportunities across the oil and gas value chain. This senior role supports corporate growth through M&A activities, divestments, strategic partnerships, and commercial agreements that align with QatarEnergyâs long-term objectives. The position requires deep expertise in both upstream and downstream operations, market intelligence, and financial analysis. Acting as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, the Principal Business Developer ensures the successful execution of strategic initiatives while representing QatarEnergyâs interests at the international level.
Required skills
Key responsibilities
- Identify, assess, and pursue new business opportunities across the upstream, midstream, and downstream oil and gas sectors
- Advise senior management on strategic directions for QatarEnergyâs global portfolio and expansion initiatives
- Support mergers, acquisitions, and divestments through deal structuring, valuation, and negotiation
- Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements, including EPSAs, DPSAs, DFAs, JVAs, HoAs, and MoUs
- Conduct market and economic analyses to evaluate investment opportunities and competitive positioning
- Collaborate with internal departments and external partners to develop and implement commercial strategies
- Manage due diligence processes and coordinate with legal, finance, and technical teams for transaction execution
- Represent QatarEnergy in industry conferences, international committees, and joint venture negotiations
- Develop and maintain insights on global energy trends, competitor movements, and emerging technologies
- Contribute to annual budget preparation, business planning, and long-term strategy formulation
Experience & skills
- 12+ years of experience in the oil and gas sector, including at least 7 years in business development, M&A, or commercial strategy
- Proven experience in negotiating large-scale transactions and partnerships within the energy industry
- Strong technical and financial understanding of upstream (exploration & production) and downstream (LNG, GTL, refining) operations
- Bachelorâs or Masterâs degree in Engineering (Petroleum, Chemical), Economics, or Finance; MBA preferred
- Exceptional negotiation, leadership, and stakeholder management skills
- High degree of integrity, professional independence, and cross-cultural adaptability
- Excellent communication and presentation skills with fluency in English
- Demonstrated ability to represent the organization in international settings and high-level discussions
