Job description
The Assistant Principal (Primary) at GEMS Al Barsha National School is responsible for leading English across the primary school and supporting the strategic leadership team in delivering high standards of teaching, learning, curriculum development, and student achievement. This role involves managing and developing teaching staff, overseeing assessment, tracking, recording, and reporting, as well as ensuring alignment with KHDA/DSIB UAE Inspection Framework, UAE Vision 2021, and the National Agenda. The Assistant Principal plays an active role in school strategic planning, curriculum innovation, target-setting, and monitoring student behaviour and attainment. The position requires fostering professional development, promoting school values and ethos, and implementing initiatives to improve both staff and student performance and motivation.
Required skills
Key responsibilities
- Lead, develop, and manage teaching and learning, curriculum implementation, assessment, target-setting, and tracking across the primary school.
- Play an active role in school strategic planning and self-review processes to support continuous improvement.
- Ensure accountability for attainment, progress, achievement, and behaviour within the primary team and implement strategies for improvement.
- Lead curriculum development initiatives in conjunction with senior and middle leaders and teaching staff.
- Support leadership and management in the primary team through knowledge and application of KHDA/DSIB inspection frameworks, UAE Vision 2021, and National Agenda priorities.
- Line manage Heads of Department, providing guidance, mentoring, and performance oversight.
- Promote high standards, innovation, and professional development among teaching staff to raise student outcomes.
- Coordinate parent partnerships and communications to enhance engagement and support for student learning.
- Lead careers and future skills education initiatives across the primary school.
- Monitor and evaluate the impact of educational initiatives, assessment outcomes, and behaviour management policies.
Experience & skills
- Bachelor’s degree and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
- Accredited leadership qualification or enrollment in a leadership development course.
- Proven skills in change leadership, innovation, and school improvement.
- Commitment to promoting and supporting the vision, values, and ethos of the school.
- Evidence of significant and continued professional development and innovation that leads to raised standards.
- Strong knowledge of competency-led curriculum frameworks and high-quality educational provision.
- Ability to generate high expectations, enthusiasm, and commitment from staff.
- Experience in student attainment monitoring, assessment, tracking, and reporting.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and stakeholder management skills, including parent engagement.
- UK-enhanced DBS or equivalent police check for safeguarding compliance.
