Job description
The Head of Secondary Science role at GEMS Royal Dubai School is a senior subject leadership position responsible for leading Science across Key Stage 3, with expansion into Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5 as the school grows towards Year 13. The role supports the launch of a new purpose-built secondary campus in September 2026 and plays a critical part in delivering a high-quality British National Curriculum for England (NCfE) science education. The position combines strategic subject leadership, curriculum development, and high-impact classroom teaching, with accountability for driving academic standards, ensuring exceptional student outcomes, and contributing to the holistic development of students within a diverse international school community. The role requires strong expertise in exam boards and post-16 pathways, effective use of student performance data, safeguarding compliance, and collaboration with staff, parents, and leadership to uphold the #RoyalStandard and support the school’s expansion strategy.

Key responsibilities
- Lead the Science department across Key Stage 3, with planned growth into Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5
- Deliver consistently outstanding science teaching and learning aligned with the National Curriculum for England
- Demonstrate strong subject knowledge across secondary science disciplines and examination pathways
- Provide exceptional subject leadership including oversight of exam boards and curriculum pathways at Key Stages 4 and 5
- Use student performance data to monitor progress, personalise learning, and optimise academic outcomes
- Collaborate with colleagues to share best practice and drive continuous improvement in teaching and learning
- Promote a high-performance mindset through reflective practice and solution-focused leadership
- Ensure safeguarding, personal development, and social wellbeing of all students
- Engage effectively with students, parents, and colleagues using strong interpersonal practices
- Contribute actively to the school’s extra-curricular programme and community-based events
- Pursue continuous professional development as both a teacher and leader
- Carry out additional reasonable duties as directed by the CEO and Principal
Experience & skills
- Hold a recognised UK teaching qualification with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Demonstrate strong subject knowledge in secondary science across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5
- Exhibit leadership capability in curriculum delivery and subject development
- Possess current knowledge of UK exam boards and secondary science pathways
- Show commitment to safeguarding and student welfare in line with UK-enhanced DBS or equivalent police checks
- Demonstrate enthusiasm for teaching, learning, and whole-school community engagement
- Be willing to contribute to a growing world-class school environment with future career progression opportunities
