Job description
Wood is seeking a Senior Mechanical Hookup and Commissioning Engineer in Dubai, UAE. The role involves preparation of hook-up workpacks, overseeing commissioning activities, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and project specifications. The engineer will lead onshore and offshore project execution, conduct pre-commissioning and commissioning activities, and resolve technical issues. The position also requires developing detailed work packs, managing interdisciplinary teams, and ensuring safety and sustainability during operations.

Key responsibilities
- Preparation of hook-up workpacks.
- Execute and oversee hook-up and commissioning activities in compliance with industry standards and safety regulations.
- Develop and implement detailed hook-up plans, commissioning procedures, and strategies for projects.
- Coordinate and supervise interdisciplinary teams involved in hook-up and commissioning activities.
- Conduct pre-commissioning and commissioning activities such as systems testing, inspections, and functional checks.
- Identify and resolve technical issues during hook-up and commissioning.
- Review project specifications, drawings, and documents for technical accuracy.
- Provide technical guidance to junior engineers and ensure adherence to project timelines and standards.
- Collaborate with project management and procurement teams for spares, resources, and equipment requirements.
- Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation measures.
- Ensure compliance with project requirements, industry codes, and standards including environmental considerations.
- Develop detailed workpacks covering method statements, hook-up details, bill of quantities, man-hour estimates, tools, material handling, commissioning procedures, and check sheets.
Experience & skills
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- 15 years’ experience in hook-up, commissioning, and start-up, preferably in offshore oil & gas projects.
- Strong knowledge of industry standards and regulations (API, ISO).
- Understanding of industry safe systems of work, work permits, and sanction-to-test procedures.
- Good working knowledge of process and safety control systems.
- Proficiency in project management tools and software for planning and scheduling.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Proven ability to resolve technical challenges and implement innovative solutions.
- Strong focus on safety, quality, and timely project delivery.
- Competence in analyzing technical documents and drawings to identify discrepancies.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and make decisions under pressure.
