Job description
The Senior Consultant – Corporate & International Tax (Direct Tax) role at Grant Thornton UAE sits within the Direct Tax Service Line, delivering corporate and international tax advisory, compliance, and planning services to a diverse client base. The role supports management and partners in interpreting corporate tax legislation, planning and restructuring activities, and overseeing the verification of tax assessments, statements of account, and surcharge notices. The position involves regular liaison with tax and social security authorities, coordination with local and global teams on international tax and M&A engagements, and active participation in transaction-related tax advisory including mergers and acquisitions. The role requires performing detailed tax analysis around business events, managing client budgets and WIP, conducting technical tax research, preparing written communications, responding to tax authority queries, and supporting clients in structuring transactions efficiently while adhering to risk management and compliance standards.

Key responsibilities
- Assist management in the interpretation of the Corporate Tax Act and support tax planning and restructuring engagements
- Oversee verification of tax assessments, statements of account, and surcharge notices to identify anomalies
- Liaise with tax and social security authorities to respond to queries in a timely and effective manner
- Act as an ambassador of the firm by building client relationships and supporting business development opportunities
- Coordinate with local and international colleagues to deliver corporate, international, and M&A tax engagements
- Consult with partners and management on technical tax and risk-related matters
- Provide tax planning, compliance, and advisory support for mergers, acquisitions, and transaction-related activities
- Analyze client tax attributes including asset and stock tax basis, transaction costs, and earnings and profits
- Monitor client work-in-progress and contribute positively to departmental billings
- Conduct tax technical research and prepare concise written communications for clients and tax authorities
- Support clients in strategizing and responding to tax authority enquiries related to transactions
- Adhere to firm risk management, ethical, and compliance procedures
Experience & skills
- Demonstrate a minimum of 3 years of experience in Corporate and International Tax
- Hold a relevant university degree with pursuit of CTA, ACCA, CPA, or equivalent tax qualification preferred
- Demonstrate ability to work independently on small engagements and collaboratively within teams
- Exhibit strong attention to detail to meet ethical and professional standards
- Demonstrate strong written and spoken English proficiency; Arabic language skills are advantageous
- Demonstrate willingness to work additional hours and travel to client sites as required
