The Senior Manager - Veterinarian (Aquatic Animal Health & Marine Conservation) role within REEF, a subsidiary of Red Sea Global, is responsible for leading comprehensive veterinary healthcare programs for Corallium's diverse marine collection including fish, elasmobranchs, corals, and invertebrates. The position focuses on preventative health care, diagnostics, treatment, quarantine management, disease control, and conservation medicine while ensuring optimal animal welfare. The role involves developing preventative health programs, conducting health assessments, establishing nutrition and feeding protocols, and designing water quality monitoring systems to prevent disease. The Senior Manager is responsible for diagnosing illness using laboratory diagnostics including microscopy, cytology, hematology, and sample collection, developing treatment plans, administering medications, performing surgical procedures, and providing emergency medical care. The role includes implementing quarantine protocols, biosecurity strategies, and disease outbreak management while supporting research initiatives and conservation programs related to Red Sea species. The position requires establishing veterinary protocols, maintaining medical records using database systems, managing veterinary budgets, designing facilities and equipment requirements, and supervising veterinary staff and aquarists. The Senior Manager ensures compliance with veterinary regulations, manages relationships with diagnostic laboratories, prepares health status reports, and maintains safety protocols including waste disposal and water discharge monitoring. The role operates in clinic, laboratory, and aquarium environments requiring in-water procedures, emergency response availability, adherence to safety protocols, and handling occupational hazards associated with aquatic veterinary practice.

Key responsibilities
- Develop and implement preventative health programs for marine species including fish, elasmobranchs, corals, and invertebrates
- Conduct regular health assessments and examinations to detect disease and health concerns early
- Establish nutrition and feeding protocols in collaboration with curatorial staff to optimize animal health
- Design and oversee water quality monitoring programs for disease prevention and animal health management
- Diagnose illness and injury using observational assessments, laboratory diagnostics, and specialized veterinary techniques
- Develop and implement treatment plans including medication administration and surgical procedures
- Design quarantine protocols for new acquisitions and establish facility biosecurity measures
- Lead disease outbreak response including diagnosis, containment, and treatment strategies
- Conduct applied research on aquatic animal health and disease management
- Support conservation, breeding, propagation, rescue, and rehabilitation programs
- Establish veterinary protocols, procedures, and medical record systems
- Manage veterinary department budget including supplies, equipment, and pharmaceuticals
- Train aquarists and husbandry staff in health monitoring and treatment administration
- Ensure compliance with veterinary regulations, medication usage, and controlled substances
- Prepare reports on collection health status, disease outbreaks, and treatment outcomes
- Establish safety protocols for veterinary procedures and hazardous species handling
Experience & skills
- Obtain a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree from an accredited institution
- Be licensed or eligible for veterinary licensure in Saudi Arabia
- Demonstrate a minimum of 5 years of experience in aquatic animal medicine within public aquariums or zoological settings
- Possess advanced training in aquatic animal medicine and experience with marine taxonomic groups including teleosts, elasmobranchs, invertebrates, and corals
- Demonstrate expertise in quarantine protocols, preventative medicine, disease management, and biosecurity measures
- Exhibit strong knowledge of aquatic animal medicine, pathology, pharmacology, and water quality parameters
- Demonstrate proficiency in aquatic animal anesthesia, diagnostic techniques, laboratory diagnostics, and surgical procedures
- Possess experience in veterinary record-keeping systems and database management
- Demonstrate ability to work in clinical, laboratory, and aquatic environments including in-water procedures and emergency response scenarios
- Adhere to safety protocols related to zoonotic diseases, hazardous materials, and occupational risks
