Job description
Corporate Strategy and Investment at Omantel sits within the Strategy & Innovation unit, and this Strategist position reports into the Sr. Manager while advising the GM, Corporate Strategy & Investment on complex strategic questions. Much of the work involves shaping parts of the multi-year corporate strategy, setting the analytical direction for complex assignments and turning the findings into clear recommendations for senior management and governance forums. Rather than producing detailed analysis yourself, you set the strategic questions and decision criteria, guide analysts, business teams and external advisors, and assure the quality of what they produce. Investment matters take up a large share of the role, from judging the strategic fit and risks of M&A, JV, partnership and divestment opportunities to challenging business cases, feasibility studies and valuation assumptions. Due diligence and post-investment review agendas also fall under your guidance. On the execution side, the position advises on the strategy governance framework and tests the logic and ambition of departmental and enterprise OKRs and KPIs. Business units and subsidiaries can expect constructive challenge on their planning assumptions, resource choices and capital allocation proposals. A bachelor's degree in a relevant field and 10 to 15 years of experience are required for this P4 grade role.
Required skills
Key responsibilities
- Shape assigned components of the multi-year corporate strategy and refresh agenda, advising on priorities and enterprise-level trade-offs
- Set the strategic questions, analytical approach and decision criteria for complex assignments
- Advise and challenge business units and subsidiaries on strategic alignment, planning assumptions, resource choices and capital allocation proposals
- Interpret market, competitor, regulatory and scenario insights and counsel senior management on strategic responses
- Frame growth opportunities and strategic options and steer decision materials for executive and Board strategy discussions
- Assess the strategic fit, value-creation potential and material risks of M&A, JV, partnership, investment and divestment opportunities
- Challenge business cases, feasibility studies, valuation assumptions and scenarios prepared by deal teams, business units or advisors
- Synthesise commercial, financial and strategic perspectives into a clear expert opinion for the Sr. Manager and governance forums
- Guide due diligence and post-investment review agendas and advise on interventions to protect or enhance portfolio value
- Refine the strategy execution and governance framework, covering ownership, decision rights, measures and escalation paths
- Test the strategic logic and ambition of departmental and enterprise OKRs and KPIs and guide their owners
- Identify material strategic implications from consolidated performance insights and advise on corrective action or reprioritisation
- Provide an independent perspective for management, Board and shareholder strategy reviews
- Counsel the GM, Corporate Strategy & Investment and senior stakeholders on complex strategic and governance matters
- Lead cross-functional workstreams without formal authority by defining the mandate and aligning stakeholders
- Coach analysts and peers through technical guidance and review, and establish frameworks and quality standards
