Job description
The Assortment Planner at GMG Dubai is responsible for developing and executing seasonal product assortments to drive category growth, profitability, and optimal inventory management. This role ensures maximum sell-through, minimal markdowns, and consistent product availability in alignment with customer demand and commercial objectives. Working closely with buying, planning, supply chain, and store operations teams, the Assortment Planner provides insights to guide the Category Manager in assortment decisions. Key activities include analyzing sales trends, product performance, and market behavior to recommend assortment adjustments, pricing strategies, and stock optimization measures. The role requires collaboration with suppliers and internal stakeholders to streamline lead times, resolve supply issues, and support product launches, seasonal campaigns, and key buying meetings. Reporting and analytics are central to the role, including delivering detailed merchandising performance reports with actionable recommendations. Continuous process improvement and sharing of best practices with junior merchandising staff are also part of the responsibilities. Strong analytical, planning, and communication skills, combined with proficiency in SAP ERP and advanced Excel, are essential for success in this position.

- Analyze sales trends, product performance, and market behavior to recommend assortment adjustments, pricing, and stock strategies
- Collaborate with planning and buying teams to ensure stock availability aligns with forecasts, promotions, and retail calendars
- Monitor and manage inventory levels across channels, preventing overstock and managing aging stock
- Coordinate with suppliers and internal stakeholders to optimize lead times and resolve supply-related issues
- Prepare and deliver detailed merchandising performance reports with actionable insights and future recommendations
- Support product launches, seasonal campaigns, and key buying meetings to ensure successful execution
- Share best practices and provide guidance to junior merchandising staff to enhance team performance and knowledge
- Continuously seek process improvements to enhance merchandising systems and overall operational efficiency
Experience & skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Retail Management, or related field; postgraduate qualification is an advantage
- Approximately 6 years of experience in merchandising, assortment planning, or related retail functions
- Proficiency in English; Arabic language skills are a plus
- Strong written communication skills
- Advanced Excel proficiency
- Experience with SAP ERP
- Data analysis and project management certifications are advantageous
- Ability to analyze sales trends, optimize inventory, and develop high-performing assortments
- Collaboration skills to work effectively with buying, planning, supply chain, and store operations teams
- Ability to prepare detailed reports, provide actionable insights, and guide junior merchandising staff
- Understanding of retail calendars, promotional planning, and commercial strategy alignment
