Job description
The System Administrator & Automation Specialist role at Bank ABC in Bahrain, reporting to the Automation Lead within the Group Information Technology Department, is responsible for managing IT operations and automating tasks using Control-M. This includes managing all operational jobs such as End-of-Day, Start-of-Day, and file transfers, installing, configuring, deploying, and upgrading Control-M applications and modules across Windows, Linux, Solaris, and AIX environments. The specialist ensures high availability of all Control-M components, enhances process resiliency, and implements automation for operational tasks. Responsibilities also include scripting in multiple languages (PowerShell, Bash, Korn), integrating Control-M with backup software, configuring and building custom reports with tools like Crystal Reports, monitoring 24x7 service availability, coordinating patch and vulnerability management, and supporting disaster recovery and business continuity tests. The role requires participation in operations for smooth execution across development, test, UAT/SIT, and production environments, and involvement in project teams for automating tasks on new banking products. Strong documentation, automation, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and permanent problem resolution skills are essential, along with experience in hybrid cloud environments, database management (Oracle/SQL), and IT certifications such as ITIL or PMP.

Key responsibilities
- Manage all IT operations jobs including End-of-Day, Start-of-Day, and file transfers using Control-M
- Install, configure, deploy, and upgrade Control-M software, servers, EM, and agents across Windows, Linux, Solaris, and AIX platforms
- Manage Control-M modules including backups, OS, database, and application modules
- Develop and maintain scripts in PowerShell, Bash, Korn shell, and other languages to automate Control-M operations
- Ensure Control-M components are designed with high availability and implement automation to increase overall process resiliency
- Document all procedures, operational tasks, and contingency plans for manual execution of Control-M jobs
- Configure and enhance Control-M reports and create custom reports using Crystal Reports or other reporting tools
- Integrate Control-M with backup software to include backups as part of End-of-Day workflows
- Support operations for Development, Test, UAT/SIT, and Production environments ensuring smooth execution of all tasks
- Participate in project teams to automate tasks on new products and services
- Monitor alerts and ensure 24x7 service availability, coordinate patch and vulnerability management
- Support disaster recovery and business continuity test activities, and ensure compliance with IT policies and procedures
Experience & skills
- 2–5 years of proven IT operations experience with Unix/Linux & Windows system administration
- Minimum 2 years of programming experience with proficiency in Unix Shell scripting (Korn, C, Bash)
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent
- Solid experience working as a Control-M scheduler in distributed environments across Windows/Linux/Solaris/AIX
- Experience generating customized reports from Control-M using Crystal Reports or similar tools
- Experience working in financial services, banking, or other 24/7 regulated environments
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills with excellent verbal and written communication
- Strong documentation, automation, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and problem resolution skills
- Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment and participate in data center operations, monitoring, incident handling, and escalation for Control-M jobs
- Database knowledge in Oracle/SQL and IT certifications such as ITIL, PMP, AWS, or Azure
- Experience working in Hybrid Cloud environments is desirable
