Job description
The Senior Accountant supports the internal finance function at Grant Thornton UAE by managing expenses, payables, statutory compliance, and financial reporting. The role plays a key part in forecasting, performance analysis, audit coordination, and VAT/WHT compliance. It requires strong IFRS knowledge, financial modelling capability, and hands-on experience within Big Four or large multinational environments. The position also oversees supplier settlements and supervises outsourced financial support while contributing to governance, internal controls, and group policy implementation. The Senior Accountant is expected to mentor local finance team members, improve process efficiency, and partner across the business to strengthen financial operations and decision-making.

Key responsibilities
- Manage and improve the expenses and accounts payable cycle.
- Maintain strong supplier relationships and oversee timely settlements and reconciliations.
- Support management reporting, performance analysis, forecasting, and planning.
- Ensure compliance with statutory accounting, audit requirements, and internal policies.
- Coordinate VAT and WHT compliance activities with advisors and the internal tax team.
- Supervise outsourced financial support and ensure quality of deliverables.
- Implement corporate governance standards and group policy compliance.
- Develop and support local finance team members to enhance capability and performance.
- Participate in financial modelling and contribute to strategic financial discussions.
- Utilize accounting systems and workflow tools (D365/SAP/Oracle) for accurate reporting.
Experience & skills
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finance or Accounting.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a Big Four firm and/or a multinational organization in the Middle East.
- Mandatory professional qualification: CPA, CA, or ACCA.
- Strong knowledge of IFRS and regulatory compliance.
- Expertise in General Ledger/Subledger operations, VAT calculations, budgeting, and financial modelling.
- Good understanding of audit and tax processes.
- Proficiency in English; Arabic is an advantage.
- Strong commercial acumen and business awareness.
- Advanced Excel, Power BI, and MS Office proficiency.
- Experience with modern ERP/accounting systems (D365 preferred; SAP/Oracle acceptable).
- Ability to work independently with a hands-on approach.
- High attention to detail and accuracy under deadlines.
- Experience in both operational accounting and strategic financial discussions.
