Job description
Baker Hughes' Global BRUSH Team supports power distribution and power network sectors with engineering-led solutions, and this Field Service Engineer role carries out commissioning, installation, repair, maintenance and upgrading of large rotating electrical machines and their associated control equipment. HV Generators, Motors, Synchronous condensers, Power Management Systems, Electrical protection systems, Excitation Controllers and Synchronising equipment all fall within scope of the commissioning work. You'll carry out upgrades to AVRs, PMS systems, Synchronisers, Protection relays and other control elements, alongside electrical testing on high and low voltage equipment and machine windings out in the field. Training on Brush Power Gen products gets delivered to clients and field service colleagues, and technical drawings, specifications and requirements need interpreting accurately across site and customer meetings. Method statements and risk assessments get prepared for client sites as needed, and mechanical service engineers sometimes need assistance on assignments outside strictly electrical work. Extensive overseas and offshore travel comes with the role, working away roughly 29 weeks a year and dealing directly with external stakeholders on site while operating on your own initiative. Networking systems knowledge such as Modbus, Ethernet, 61850 and Fibre is advantageous, alongside solid understanding of Health, Safety and Environment concepts, practices and procedures. An accredited electrical or electronic qualification, or equivalent relevant experience, is expected, together with 5 or more years in electrical power generation and distribution systems and fluent spoken and written English.
