Job description
The Head ā Financial Reporting and Control is responsible for overseeing the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of the Bankās financial reporting, internal controls, and accounting policies while ensuring full adherence to IFRS and applicable local regulatory frameworks. The role manages the publishing of standalone and consolidated financial statements for the Bank and its subsidiaries in compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), coordinates external audits for the Mashreq Group including subsidiaries and selected overseas branches, and maintains a strong financial control environment aligned with SOX/ICFR requirements. The position includes leading and developing a high-performing finance team, driving governance across all financial reporting and financial control activities, overseeing compliance with regulatory submissions to authorities such as the UAE Central Bank and DFSA, ensuring general ledger integrity, reconciliation, and chart of accounts governance, and managing accounting policies and interpretations. The role involves analyzing financial performance, overseeing group consolidation and complex accounting matters, and communicating financial results to leadership including the GCFO. Additional responsibilities include assessing changes in accounting standards, providing insights to committees regarding control matters, coordinating with auditors, regulators, and tax authorities, implementing automation and digital tools to enhance reporting accuracy and efficiency, leading initiatives to improve financial systems and reporting capabilities, providing IFRS guidance throughout the bank, advising on new business initiatives and strategic projects, and collaborating with business units, treasury, tax, and other teams to deliver integrated financial insights. The role also includes delivering strategic financial leadership on financial risk, control, and reporting matters, managing and mentoring controllers, analysts and accountants, and fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and professional development.

Key responsibilities
- Oversee preparation of consolidated financial statements for the bank and subsidiaries in compliance with IFRS and local regulations
- Oversee submission of reports to regulatory bodies including the UAE Central Bank, DFSA and other financial authorities
- Ensure financial records are accurate, complete and compliant with IFRS and local standards
- Analyze financial performance and provide insights to senior management including the GCFO
- Oversee group consolidation and complex accounting matters
- Drive accuracy and timeliness in financial reporting with clear communication to leadership
- Serve as point of contact for external auditors during interim and annual audits
- Partner with internal and external auditors, regulators and tax authorities to ensure smooth audit and compliance
- Establish and maintain a strong financial control environment aligned with ICFR framework
- Oversee general ledger integrity, reconciliation and chart of accounts governance
- Ensure adherence to accounting policies and assess changes in accounting standards
- Oversee accounting interpretations and consistent application across the bank
- Provide insights to bank-level committees on financial control matters
- Ensure all financial reports comply with regulatory requirements and internal policies
- Ensure all submissions to regulatory authorities including mandatory filings or disclosures
- Lead initiatives to improve financial systems, automation and reporting capabilities
- Identify inefficiencies and recommend process improvements
- Implement automations and digital tools to enhance reporting accuracy and efficiency
- Provide technical accounting expertise for new business initiatives, acquisitions and strategic projects
- Provide technical IFRS guidance throughout the bank
- Collaborate with business units, treasury, tax and other teams to deliver integrated financial insights
- Act as key advisor to senior leadership on financial risk, control and reporting matters
- Manage and mentor a team of controllers, analysts and accountants
- Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement and professional development
Experience & skills
- Hold a professional certification such as CA, CPA or ACCA
- Possess over 15 years of hands-on experience in financial reporting or auditing preferably within banking or financial services
- Demonstrate strong leadership and stakeholder management capabilities
- Exhibit a high standard of integrity, governance and attention to detail
- Have experience working with external auditors and managing audit deliverables
- Possess strong knowledge of IFRS and its application in financial reporting
- Demonstrate expert knowledge of banking-specific accounting standards including IFRS 9, IFRS 16 and IFRS 10
- Be proficient in financial reporting tools and core banking systems
- Show strong understanding of banking products, treasury operations and financial instruments
