Job description
Level Shoes runs its backend on Vapor-based microservices, and this Server-Side Swift Developer role joins that team to build and operate the services powering iOS, Android and web storefronts across six GCC markets in English and Arabic. Production ownership runs deep here, covering design, implementation, code review, deployment and how services actually behave under sale-day load or when integrated systems misbehave. You'll build and maintain the RESTful APIs behind commerce flows like accounts and authentication, catalogue, cart, checkout, payments and orders, ensuring correctness across every store, market and locale. Third-party integrations span the commerce platform, order management, search, CMS and payment or BNPL gateways, including webhook handling and safe degradation when those systems slow down or go offline. Concurrency-safe, idempotent processing keeps operations running correctly across multiple service replicas, while MongoDB handles data modelling and query optimisation and Redis powers caching and session strategies. Search and listing functionality runs on Elastic Search, tuned and implemented directly, with behaviour changes shipped behind feature flags through staged, measured rollouts. Investigating production issues from logs and metrics happens routinely, fixes get validated against evidence, and CI/CD pipelines and deployment workflows on Kubernetes stay maintained throughout. AI-driven capabilities like vector search for personalisation get explored too, and every piece of code goes through teammate review before merge, regardless of seniority. Six or more years of professional software development experience is required, including at least 3 years building production backend services in server-side Swift with Vapor, since client-side Swift alone doesn't satisfy this requirement.
Required skills
Key responsibilities
- Design, develop and maintain scalable backend services in Swift using Vapor
- Own services end to end, covering design, implementation, code review, deployment and production health
- Build and maintain the RESTful APIs behind customer-facing commerce flows, including accounts, catalogue, cart, checkout, payments and orders
- Ensure correctness across multiple stores and languages, with every request scoped to a market and locale
- Develop integrations with third-party systems, including commerce platform, order management, search, CMS and payment/BNPL gateways
- Engineer concurrency-safe, idempotent processing for operations running across multiple service replicas
- Model data and optimise queries in MongoDB, and implement caching and session strategies in Redis
- Implement and tune Elastic Search-backed search and listing functionality
- Ship behaviour changes behind feature flags with staged, measured rollouts
- Investigate production issues from logs and metrics and validate fixes with evidence
- Maintain CI/CD pipelines and deployment workflows on Kubernetes
- Explore AI-driven capabilities such as vector search for personalisation
- Review teammates' changes, ensuring all code is reviewed before merge regardless of seniority
Experience & skills
- Bring 6 or more years of professional software development experience, including at least 3 years building production backend services in server-side Swift with Vapor
- Show a strong command of Swift concurrency, protocol-oriented design and Codable, including decoding payloads from external systems
- Demonstrate concurrency, race condition and idempotency experience in multi-instance services, backed by a specific production bug found, diagnosed and fixed
- Carry a strong understanding of RESTful API design, authentication and token lifecycle
- Apply production experience with MongoDB, including data modelling, indexing and query performance
- Draw on Redis experience for caching and session state, including graceful behaviour when it is unavailable
- Hold experience with ElasticSearch for search and listing
- Maintain experience integrating payment gateways and third-party APIs, including webhook-driven flows
- Operate Kubernetes for deploying and running containerised services, reading logs and metrics to a defensible conclusion
- Use Git, CI/CD pipelines and automated testing, with Swift Package Manager for dependency management
- Sustain a strong grasp of performance, scalability and security best practices
