Job description
Getting a hundred engineers to adopt an event taxonomy is harder than designing the schema itself, and that is the real problem this Staff Analytics Engineer role exists to solve at Salla. You will own event instrumentation and behavioural data end to end, covering Salla's event taxonomy, tracking plans, schemas, identity model, and the validation that keeps all of it trustworthy. This work happens inside the engineering development lifecycle itself, in PRDs, design reviews, and pull requests, rather than downstream of it. Partnering with Product ensures every behavioural metric traces back to an event someone deliberately designed, documented, and monitored. Data models and transformation pipelines fall under direct ownership too, built and maintained to serve cross-functional stakeholders with scalable solutions. Quality and consistency in the data get protected through rigorous testing, validation, and monitoring practices, with issues spotted and fixed proactively before they spread. The data warehouse structure, data dictionary, and lineage all need documenting and maintaining, alongside data modeling best practices defined and enforced across teams. Analytics and business teams get supported in optimizing self-serve access to reliable metrics, while the developer experience across the data stack improves through automated workflows and simplified data discovery. This is a senior individual contributor role carrying company-wide influence, suited to someone comfortable driving adoption without formal authority.
Required skills
Key responsibilities
- Own the design, development, and maintenance of data models and transformation pipelines
- Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to understand data needs and build scalable solutions
- Ensure data quality and consistency through rigorous testing, validation, and monitoring practices
- Spot and fix data issues proactively
- Maintain and document the data warehouse structure, data dictionary, and lineage
- Define and enforce data modeling best practices
- Partner with analytics and business teams to optimize self-serve access to reliable metrics and insights
- Improve developer experience across the data stack by automating workflows and simplifying data discovery
Experience & skills
- Bring 6+ years in analytics engineering, data engineering, product analytics infrastructure, or software engineering, including at least 3 years directly owning event instrumentation and tracking
- Show a proven track record designing an event taxonomy and tracking plan from scratch and driving genuine adoption across engineering teams
- Carry hands-on experience with event collection or CDP platforms such as Segment or Jitsu, and product analytics platforms such as Amplitude, Mixpanel, PostHog, or GA4
- Apply strong software engineering fundamentals, with enough production fluency in TypeScript/JavaScript, Kotlin, Swift, PHP, Go, or Python to meaningfully review a tracking pull request
- Demonstrate expert SQL and hands-on dbt experience, including modelling high-volume event data in a columnar warehouse such as ClickHouse, BigQuery, or Snowflake
- Draw on working knowledge of streaming architecture such as Kafka, including delivery semantics, idempotency, deduplication, and late-arriving data
- Handle experience with server-side tagging, consent management, and privacy regulation
- Hold a clear, defensible point of view on identity resolution, sessionisation, and cross-platform stitching
- Influence engineering teams without formal authority, backed by excellent written communication
