Job description
The Senior Construction Superintendent - Mechanical at Wood in Abu Dhabi is responsible for overseeing construction supervision, management, coordination, and administration for mechanical scope included in FEED and EPC contracts in line with ADNOC Offshore and client objectives. The role involves leading construction and installation planning, ensuring compliance with EPC scope requirements, reviewing and providing constructability input to designs, coordinating fabrication works at EPC contractor and subcontractor facilities, and supervising construction, commissioning, and handover activities. Responsibilities also include monitoring EPC contractors for adherence to safety, quality, and schedule requirements, identifying construction slippage and recommending corrective actions, participating in site surveys, formulating construction deliverables, managing change control, and liaising with procurement, project controls, and ADNOC Offshore PMT teams. The superintendent must ensure alignment with ADNOC Offshore policies, promote HSE improvements, and review engineering design drawings for optimization, safety, and cost-effective methodologies. The position requires extensive knowledge of construction completion procedures, pre-commissioning activities, and effective constructability reviews. Key responsibilities
- Facilitate and formulate construction supervision, management, coordination, administration, and strict enforcement of FEED/EPC construction scope to meet project schedule
- Coordinate FEED/EPC contractor from construction through commissioning and handover of works
- Review and provide input to overall construction and installation plan, procedures, and requirements in EPC packages to ensure constructability
- Ensure EPC contractor construction plans, procedures, and requirements comply with scope of work intent
- Coordinate and assist fabrication works at EPC contractor or subcontractor fabrication facilities
- Supervise, monitor, and inspect EPC contractor and subcontractor work at construction or manufacturing locations per ADNOC Offshore policy for supervision, quality assurance, control, and inspection
- Maintain EPC contractor adherence to safety, quality, and schedule requirements
- Identify construction slippage and recommend corrective actions for EPC contractor
- Provide construction input to estimates when required
- Review design documents and provide constructability input to designs
- Undertake site visits to support construction development, review designs, and liaise with EPC contractor or subcontractors
- Identify specialist vendor support, tools, and equipment required to implement scope
- Interface with ADNOC Offshore Operations groups as needed
- Participate in site surveys and generate reports
- Formulate construction deliverables in line with project procedures
- Assist with construction input to bid preparation
- Develop construction requirements for bid estimates
- Apply thorough knowledge of construction completion procedures and pre-commissioning activities
- Engage in effective change management processes
- Liaise with ADNOC Offshore PMT team on design and technical data
- Coordinate constructability reviews in line with model progression
- Ensure constructability readiness reviews meet planned deliverable timelines
- Liaise with procurement for material and equipment deliverables aligned with project schedules
- Coordinate with project controls on progress of work order issuance and completion dates
- Participate in HSE improvement activities and promote HSE throughout construction development
- Review engineering design drawings and challenge work content for improvements or cost-effective methodologies without compromising safety
- Challenge engineering details to minimize hot work where possible
Experience & skills
- Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical
- Minimum 15 years of experience in the oil and gas industry
- At least 5 years in a similar construction superintendent role
- PMC experience on EPC offshore brownfield production upgradation and modification of existing facilities projects is highly preferable
- Thorough working knowledge of construction completion procedures and pre-commissioning activities
- Ability to review engineering design drawings and suggest improvements
- Experience liaising with EPC contractors, subcontractors, procurement, project controls, and ADNOC Offshore PMT
- Knowledge of ADNOC Offshore policies for supervision, quality assurance, control, and inspection
- Strong experience in constructability reviews and readiness reviews
- Demonstrated ability to ensure contractor adherence to safety, quality, and schedule requirements
- Proven experience supporting bid preparation and construction estimate development
