Job description
The SCMS Configuration Engineer role at Siemens Industrial LLC in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates is part of the Smart Infrastructure Electrification & Automation division focused on integrating power distribution systems with digital technologies to enable safe, secure, energy-efficient, and sustainable energy infrastructure. The role is responsible for designing, configuring, and implementing Substation Control and Monitoring Systems (SCMS) and substation automation systems that optimize monitoring, control, protection, and operational performance of electrical substations. The engineer works on configuring and maintaining PC networking infrastructure including switches, routers, GPS systems, firewalls, and cybersecurity components to ensure secure and reliable substation communications. The role involves preparing and approving engineering documentation such as Functional Design Specifications (FDS), system architecture designs, signal lists, and bills of materials (BOM). It includes developing and executing testing and commissioning documentation including Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), test reports, and commissioning schedules. The SCMS Configuration Engineer integrates Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs), Remote Terminal Units (RTUs), Gateways, and Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs) to enable remote monitoring and control of substation systems. The role requires strong expertise in communication protocols including IEC 61850, IEC 60870 series, DNP3, OPC, and Modbus TCP/IP, as well as hands-on experience with Siemens SICAM solutions such as SICAM PAS, SICAM Toolbox, WinCC, SCC, SICAM A8000, and Device Manager. The engineer is also responsible for implementing industrial cybersecurity measures including network segmentation, firewalls, intrusion detection and prevention systems (IDS/IPS), VPNs, and secure remote access solutions in compliance with IEC 62443 standards. The role involves collaboration with engineering teams to ensure cybersecurity requirements are embedded into system architecture and upgrades. Additional responsibilities include parameterizing substation automation systems for optimal performance, supporting Process Bus technologies, IO mapping, and ensuring integration of OT security principles. The position also requires delivering technical training sessions and customer presentations to support deployment and adoption of substation automation solutions.
