Job description
The Applied AI Engineer at Deriv operates in an AI-first software development environment, leveraging AI tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, and frontier models as primary development interfaces. This role requires designing systems, prototyping, debugging, refactoring, and shipping production software using AI as a co-developer. Responsibilities include end-to-end ownership of software features, exploring problem spaces with AI, building autonomous AI systems that maintain context and act proactively, and continuously improving workflows. Engineers in this role must deliver real production systems for millions of users, collaborate across frontend, backend, APIs, databases, and deployment infrastructure, and operate in fast-paced, high-output environments.
Required skills
Key responsibilities
- Ideate and build software products using AI to explore problem spaces, generate ideas, and define deliverables
- Code with AI as co-developer using Claude Code, Cursor, or similar tools for generating, refactoring, testing, and documenting code
- Review and improve AI-generated code, building guardrails and automated feedback loops
- Ship end-to-end production features, owning architecture, implementation, deployment, and iteration
- Explore, design, and deploy autonomous AI systems that maintain context, act proactively, and continuously run tasks
- Continuously evolve workflows to optimize AI-assisted software development
- Experiment with AI agent frameworks and integrate autonomous agent capabilities into production systems
Experience & skills
- 2–8 years of software engineering experience
- Proven experience with AI-first software development workflows
- Track record of shipping production software for real users, not just prototypes or side projects
- Full-stack development experience across frontend, backend, APIs, databases, and deployment
- Ability to iterate rapidly, prototype, test with users, and fix issues proactively
- Experience experimenting with autonomous AI agents (Claude Agent SDK, OpenClaw, OpenAI Codex agents) is a bonus
- Comfort with diverse tech stack including AI tools, TypeScript, Python, cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP), PostgreSQL, Redis, and Docker
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, output-driven environment
- Strong problem-solving and debugging skills in complex AI-assisted workflows
