Job description
The Senior Operations Engineer (Offshore) at OQ Exploration and Production is responsible for executing and managing operational activities for Oman Offshore Block 8, ensuring that all production, operations, safety, quality, and environmental standards are met in accordance with MOGC policies and international best practices. Based in Musandam, Oman, this role focuses on maintaining production efficiency, equipment reliability, and asset integrity while ensuring compliance with HSE and operational standards. The position requires expertise in offshore production systems, mechanical and E&I engineering, and leadership of multidisciplinary teams to achieve operational excellence. Responsibilities include overseeing daily operations, implementing business management and preventative maintenance systems, ensuring safe and efficient well operations, conducting performance analytics, and managing operational budgets (OPEX/CAPEX). The role also involves coordinating with government authorities, suppliers, contractors, and project teams to support brownfield developments and field optimization. Offshore work involves travel by crew boats, vessels, or helicopters, with potential stationing on platforms as required. The position demands strong leadership, technical proficiency, and hands-on operational experience in oil and gas field management, asset integrity, and HSE compliance.

Key responsibilities
- Manage all offshore field production operations and facilities from an HSSE perspective to ensure compliance with safety and operational standards
- Develop, implement, and maintain a Business Management System for production and maintenance activities related to offshore operations
- Maintain production levels from the field to meet established production targets and ensure operational efficiency
- Prepare and manage operating budgets, monitoring OPEX and CAPEX expenditures within approved limits
- Oversee Well Head operations and maintain safe operating limits in accordance with MOGC policies
- Handle breakdowns efficiently and ensure timely restoration of wells and systems to operational status
- Manage and review Asset Integrity Management Systems to ensure continuous performance optimization
- Supervise pigging operations and ensure accurate chemical inhibition dosages to maintain system integrity
- Maintain and update Management of Change (MOC) and Deviation registers, prioritizing tasks accordingly
- Coordinate with subsurface teams to report and analyze process variations affecting field performance
- Execute planned shutdown jobs safely and within schedule while ensuring compliance with operational protocols
- Maintain effective communication with MOGC, MGP, government bodies in Musandam, and external contractors and suppliers
- Prepare, review, and quality control daily production, weekly internal, and monthly external reports for internal use and regulatory submission
- Develop and manage stock and spare parts inventory to minimize downtime and optimize operational costs
- Establish and maintain preventative maintenance programs to ensure consistent field performance and reliability
- Manage workforce allocation and manpower planning for offshore operations
- Negotiate and prepare contracts, subcontracts, and service orders for operational requirements
- Recommend and implement plant modifications for improved operational efficiency and performance
- Lead by example in ensuring occupational health, safety, security, and environmental compliance
- Support brownfield development projects and coordinate with project teams for field expansion activities
- Ensure the functionality and compliance of the HSE Management System and maintain asset integrity across company facilities
- Perform stand-by or on-call duties as required for operational continuity
Experience & skills
- Hold a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related discipline
- Possess 6 to 10 years of experience in offshore oil and gas operations management
- Have a strong background in mechanical and electrical/instrumentation engineering and offshore production systems
- Demonstrate expertise in operational management, asset integrity, and maintenance planning
- Show experience in major maintenance, field development, and facilities upgrade initiatives
- Exhibit proficiency in HSE management systems and risk handling, including HAZOP
- Be skilled in production optimization, pigging operations, and well integrity management
- Demonstrate experience in contract management, supply chain coordination, and resource control
- Be computer literate with strong proficiency in Microsoft Office and operational software tools
- Possess strong leadership, management, and interpersonal skills with cross-cultural sensitivity
- Display motivation, strategic thinking, and ability to handle dynamic offshore challenges
- Have excellent English communication skills (written and spoken); Arabic language skills desirable
- Be willing to work offshore with travel via vessels, helicopters, or crew boats based on operational needs
