Job description
The Stock Controller in Sports Retail Operations is responsible for managing the purchasing and replenishment of retail products, ensuring stock levels are maintained within the agreed budget parameters. The role involves accurate maintenance and updating of all inventory and stock management systems, verification of delivered supplies against purchase orders, logging all stock movements, administering returns and damaged/un-saleable stock, and supervising storeroom health and safety compliance. The role requires coordination with store operations staff, execution of weekly cycle counts, and assisting with annual physical inventory. The position supports the broader Retail Operations department of GMG, a global sports retail company operating in the Middle East, North Africa, and Asia, with responsibility for multiple leading international and home-grown brands.
Required skills
Key responsibilities
- Ensure all inventory and stock management systems are maintained and updated accurately within agreed parameters
- Receive delivered supplies, confirm they match purchase order specifications including quantity, condition, and model number, and complete all necessary documentation
- Manage all stock movements in and out, maintaining a complete log to ensure accuracy against transfer documents
- Maintain stock levels within agreed inventory parameters and highlight discrepancies to ensure proper stock control
- Alert the store manager when stock levels approach or exceed the defined budget
- Administer the process for returns, managing a defined storeroom area for returns, out-of-date, damaged, and un-saleable goods
- Maintain the storeroom and allocate space for stock, ensuring compliance with defined regulations
- Supervise the implementation of health and safety procedures within the storeroom
- Coordinate with store operations staff to prepare and process damaged stock for transfer to the warehouse after approvals
- Execute weekly cycle counts of inventory materials based on system reports and assist in annual physical inventory counts
Experience & skills
- 2–5 years of relevant experience with at least 1 year in a similar stock control role
- Product and category knowledge relevant to retail operations
- Experience within the retail industry, preferably in sports retail
