Complex backend systems need someone who can keep them scalable, secure, performant, and reliable, and that responsibility sits squarely with this Senior Backend Engineer role. You will design and develop backend services and APIs in Java and Spring Boot within a microservices architecture, owning delivery of complex features end to end from technical design through production. Database interactions, integrations, and inter-service communication all need designing and optimising, and event-driven flows built on Kafka and enterprise messaging keep the wider system connected. Security runs through every layer of the job, from authentication and authorization to encryption and sensitive data handling. Code reviews happen regularly, and engineering standards across the squad need upholding alongside them. Production issues get troubleshot as they arise, with durable fixes rather than quick patches expected. Technical design decisions and application architecture fall within scope, as do improvements to CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, deployment, and observability on OpenShift and Kubernetes. Debt in the codebase gets flagged and addressed, driving improvements to design and code quality over time.
